During the COVID-19 pandemic, criminals have been quick to seize opportunities to exploit the crisis by adapting their modi operandi and engaging in new criminal activities. Cybercriminals have been among the most adept at exploiting the pandemic. The threat from cybercrime activities during the crisis is dynamic and has the potential to increase further. With a record number of potential victims staying at home and using online services across the EU, the ways for cybercriminals seeking to exploit emerging opportunities and vulnerabilities have multiplied.

Volume of retail trade up by 0.9% in euro area

In February 2020 ¬– the month before COVID-19 containment measures began to be widely introduced by Member States –, the seasonally adjusted volume of retail trade increased by 0.9% in the euro area and by 0.8% in the EU, compared with January 2020, according to estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In January 2020, the retail trade volume increased by 0.7% in the euro area and by 0.8% in the EU.

Industrial producer prices down by 0.6% in both euro area and EU

In February 2020, – the month before COVID-19 containment measures began to be widely introduced by Member States –, industrial producer prices decreased by 0.6% in both the euro area and the EU, compared with January 2020, according to estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In January 2020, prices increased by 0.2% in both the euro area and the EU.

Intelligence Artificielle : comprenez ses défis et opportunités pour notre société

Quel est le point commun entre Facebook, Spotify, Netflix et l’appareil photo de votre smartphone ? Notamment… qu’ils fonctionnent grâce à une l’intelligence artificielle, sous une forme ou une autre ! 

Car l’Intelligence Artificielle irrigue déjà nos vies. Lorsque vous regardez les fils d’actualité de vos réseaux sociaux préférés, ce que vous voyez a été sélectionné par une IA. De même, Netflix et les entreprises de musique en ligne vous proposent une sélection qui vous plaira à partir d’analyses de votre consommation de films, séries et morceaux musicaux. Quand vous prenez une photo d’un plat au restaurant pour l’envoyer à vos amis, votre appareil s’adapte tout seul  pour vous proposer le mode qui rendra le mieux… toujours grâce à l’IA. 

On pourrait multiplier les exemples qui prouvent que l’IA, ce ne sont pas  les robots et les voitures autonomes. Elle transforme d’ores et déjà notre quotidien, nos entreprises et nos métiers, et ce n’est que le début ! Plus qu’une niche scientifique, elle est donc un sujet de société, auquel chacun devrait s’intéresser. 

Pourtant, l’IA est souvent perçu comme un sujet d’expert, voire une spécialité nébuleuse. Elle est partout autour de nous, mais aussi nulle part, puisque nous ne la repérons pas forcément, et n’en comprenons pas le fonctionnement de manière précise. 

Et comme tout ce qui est mal compris, elle inquiète. Une IA qui connaît mes préférences, mes goûts, mes données personnelles peut-elle se retourner contre moi ? Vendre mes données, les utiliser à mauvais escient, voire me manipuler ? Où s’arrête le pouvoir d’une IA ? Sera-t-elle toujours contrôlable dans le futur ? Quelles sont les implications éthiques liées à cette technologie ? Que doit-on accepter et interdire ; une législation appropriée existe-t-elle ?

Pour lever ces doutes, le mieux est encore de comprendre en quoi consiste l’Intelligence Artificielle. Où et comment est-elle utilisée et pourquoi ? Comment fonctionne cette technologie et ses algorithmes ? Quels sont ses opportunités, mais aussi les risques liés à une mauvaise utilisation ? Comment lever ces risques, se protéger de manipulations et sécuriser ses données ? 

L’Institut Montaigne et l’école en ligne OpenClassrooms ont souhaité apporter des réponses à ces questions. Pour ce faire, ils ont créé le cours Objectif IA, qui s’adresse à toute personne curieuse de comprendre le fonctionnement et les enjeux que soulève l’intelligence artificielle. Euro area unemployment at 7.3%

The euro area seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 7.3% in February 2020 ¬– the month before COVID-19 containment measures began to be widely introduced by Member States –, down from 7.4% in January 2020 and from 7.8% in February 2019. This is the lowest rate recorded in the euro area since March 2008. The EU unemployment rate was 6.5% in February 2020, stable compared with January 2020 and down from 6.9% in February 2019. This remains the lowest rate recorded in the EU since the start of the monthly unemployment series in February 2000. These figures are published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.

The novel coronavirus has dramatically changed how we spend time and share physical and virtual space with each other. On Friday, March 27, conflict mediator and author Priya Parker joined head of TED Chris Anderson and current affairs curator Whitney Pennington Rodgers on TED Connects to discuss what we all can do to stay connected and sustain relationships while apart during the pandemic. Here’s some advice to help you get through this uncertain time:

Bring intention to planning a virtual gathering

As platforms like Zoom, Slack and email become more integrated into our lives, it’s clear that technology will play an important role in helping us keep in touch. Whether you’re organizing a Zoom dinner party or Facetiming a friend, Parker invites us to consider how we can elevate the conversation beyond just check-ins. In planning a virtual gathering, ask:

• Who’s joining and why?
• What are your community’s needs?
• What’s the reason you’re coming together?

As the pandemic evolves, these needs will likely shift. Stay attuned to the kinds of connections your communities are seeking.

Include fun themes to elevate your digital get-togethers

Parker suggests centering your gatherings around themes or activities to encourage more meaningful and purposeful conversations. Incorporate elements of the physical world to create a shared experience, like asking everyone to wear a funny costume or making the same recipe together. Though screens don’t quite replace the energy of in-person gatherings, we can still strengthen community bonds by reminding ourselves that there are real people on the other end of our devices.

Set healthy boundaries to maintain wellbeing

As we’re figuring out the best way to exist in the digital world, it’s also crucial we put in the effort to meaningfully connect with those we’re quarantining with. The distinctions between time to work, socialize and rest can grow blurrier by the day, so be sure to set boundaries and ground rules with those you live with. In having this conversation with your roommates, family or partner, reflect on these prompts:

• How do you want to distinguish time spent together versus apart?
• How do you want to share time together?
• Since we look at screens most of the day, could it be helpful to set no-screen times or brainstorm new, non-digital ways to hang out?

Allow yourself to reflect on the unknown

It’s important to acknowledge that this is not a normal time, Parker says. The coronavirus pandemic has transformed the world, and as a global society we’ll experience the reverberations of this period as they ripple across every sector of human life. Make sure to create space for those conversations, too.

Take time to wander through the unknown, to talk about how we are being changed — individually and collectively — by this shared experience. It’s perfectly normal to feel worried, vulnerable, even existential, and this may be a great time to lean into those feelings and think about what really matters to you.

Recognize the power and feeling community brings — no matter the size

While the coronavirus pandemic has physically isolated many of us from each other, our ingenuity and resilience ensures that we can still build and forge community together. Across the world, people are gathering in new and amazing ways to set up “care-mongering” support groups, sing with their neighbors, take ceramics classes, knit together and break bread.

Now is the time to discover (or rediscover) the value and power of community. We are all members of many different communities: our neighborhoods, families, countries, faith circles and so on. Though we’re living in unprecedented times of social isolation, we can forge stronger bonds by gathering in ways that reflect our best values and principles. In the United Kingdom, a recent campaign asked people across the country to go outside at a synchronized time and collectively applaud health workers on the frontlines of the crisis; a similar effort was made across India to ring bells in honor of the ill and those caring for them. During this crisis and beyond, we can use thoughtful ritual-making to transform our unease and isolation into community bonding.

“Gathering is contagious,” Parker says. “These small, simple ideas allow people to feel like we can shape some amount — even a small amount — of our collective reality together.”

90 suspects identified in major online child sexual abuse operation

This case was sparked by the Belgian East Flanders Federal Judicial Police (Federale Gerechtelijke Politie Oost-Vlaanderen) after more than 9 million pictures and videos of the abuse of thousands of children from around the world were found there during a house search.

Hourly labour costs ranged from €6.0 to €44.7 across the EU Member States in 2019

In 2019, average hourly labour costs in the whole economy (excluding agriculture and public administration) were estimated to be €27.7 in the European Union of 27 Member States (EU) and €31.4 in the euro area. However, the average masks significant gaps between EU Member States, with the lowest hourly labour costs recorded in Bulgaria (€6.0), Romania (€7.7), Lithuania (€9.4), Hungary and Latvia (both €9.9), and the highest in Denmark (€44.7), Luxembourg (€41.6), Belgium (€40.5), France (€36.6), the Netherlands (€36.4), Sweden (€36.3), Germany (€35.6) and Austria (€34.7).

Euro area annual inflation down to 0.7%

Euro area annual inflation is expected to be 0.7% in March 2020, down from 1.2% in February according to a flash estimate from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.

EU Member States granted citizenship to over 670 thousand people in 2018

In 2018, around 672 300 persons acquired citizenship of one of the 27 Member States of the European Union (EU), down from 700 600 in 2017 and 843 900 in 2016. Of the total number of persons obtaining the citizenship of one of the EU Member States in 2018, 13% were former citizens of another EU Member State, while the majority were non-EU citizens or stateless.

Les clés pour manager son équipe à distance

Le télétravail a le vent en poupe. En 2019, 29% des Français* y avaient déjà régulièrement recours et 55% de salariés souhaitaient le pratiquer. Plus de deux tiers des managers considéraient que le travail à distance rendait leurs équipes plus engagées et productives. 

La crise du Coronavirus a fait s’emballer ces chiffres, puisque le confinement a forcé des millions de personnes à adopter le travail à distance. Alors, en tant que manager, comment accompagner ses équipes dans ce changement soudain ? Comment mettre en place la bonne organisation et le bon cadre pour garder son équipe sereine et efficace ?

Les risques majeurs sont l’isolement qui conduit à un manque d’appartenance et de vision quant à son rôle dans l’entreprise, les difficultés à séparer la vie professionnelle de la vie personnelle, la prise de retard sur les objectifs de l’entreprise et le manque de confiance des managers vis à vis des équipes. Voici nos conseils pour éviter ces écueils. 

Faire confiance

Le télétravail est bénéfique à condition que les échanges soient sereins. Le manager a un rôle à jouer dans la fluidité de ces échanges en évitant de micro-manager son équipe, ce qui générerait de la défiance. 

À distance, impossible de voir son équipe travailler. Aussi, il est nécessaire de laisser de l’espace aux collègues. Comment ? En s’appuyant sur deux piliers : 

– des objectifs clairs
– les résultats et non les moyens.

Jérémy Durand dirige les opérations globales d’OpenClassrooms. Il travaille depuis le Mexique, et est en 100% télétravail depuis 8 ans. Pour lui, « on ne peut pas travailler à distance sans objectifs. Il faut qu’ils soient mesurables, idéalement avec des paliers journaliers ou hebdomadaires. L’important pour le manager est de les choisir en accord avec les collaborateurs, et de les documenter« . Il conseille aussi de donner de la visibilité aux équipes pour savoir où en sont les objectifs de chacun, pour célébrer les succès et garder en tête l’avancement collectif.

Les objectifs bien définis permettent de se concentrer sur les résultats, soulageant les managers d’une charge mentale considérable. Car si un salarié a pour but de mener à bien une mission pour la semaine suivante, nul besoin d’un suivi quotidien. Le manager reste simplement disponible en cas de question ou de blocage, dans un climat de confiance et de responsabilités.

Soigner la communication

Une fois les objectifs fixés, le reste se joue autour de la communication. Jérémy conseille de se concentrer sur plusieurs points. 

1- Poser les bases du télétravail en équipe

Au départ, il faut discuter avec son équipe pour co-construire les façons de se parler, se briefer, la fréquence des échanges… bref, les règles du jeu. 

2- Dédramatiser l’écrit

« Tout ce que vous écrirez pourra être retenu contre vous » on pourrait résumer ainsi le rapport des Français à l’écrit. Or, en télétravail, l’écrit devient non pas une arme de destruction massive, mais le moyen privilégié de communication. Jeremy insiste : « il faut absolument dédramatiser le rapport à l’écrit car c’est un puissant allié« . Voici ses astuces :

– établir un code sur les emails : dans un contexte où le nombre de mails augmente. Lorsqu’on commence en objet par « Action requise« , « Urgent« , « Validation« … la personne peut traiter ce message en priorité

– respecter le temps de traitement en asynchrone : au contraire du bureau où l’on peut aller voir les collègues, une personne peut être occupée sur une tâche et ne pas répondre à ses emails ou messages de suite. 

3- Ritualiser la communication 

« Puisqu’on est seul, il faut instaurer des contacts réguliers avec son équipe« , assure Jérémy. Il conseille d’instaurer : 

– une réunion d’équipe au minimum une fois par semaine pour balayer les sujets

– des échanges sur messagerie instantanée au cours de la journée
– éventuellement un stand-up quotidien de 15 minutes pour évoquer les dossiers 

traités et les éventuels blocages, en début de matinée

4- Diversifier les canaux de contact

Pour fluidifier les échanges, Jérémy conseille d’instaurer plusieurs niveaux de communication. 

– de la communication asynchrone (les emails)

– de la communication synchrone : une messagerie instantanée, des visioconférences. « Remettre la vidéo au centre replace l’émotion dans la communication car on voit les expressions de visage des collègues et on entend leur ton. C’est donc primordial d’utiliser la caméra ! « , explique Jérémy. 

– des canaux publics, où l’on célèbre les victoires de l’équipe régulièrement.

5- Privilégier les échanges en public

Les échanges en public favorisent le travail en groupe, la communication et les fiertés collectives. Ils rendent l’entreprise transparente, en échangeant au vu de tous les collaborateurs. Jérémy conseille autant que possible de créer des groupes de discussions de projets synchrones et de poster en priorité à ces endroits. 

6- S’organiser à l’aide des bons outils 

Pour ne pas diluer l’information, il faut se doter des bons outils.

– les applications collaboratives : Asana, Trello, Basecamp, Airtable et surtout la Suite Google pour éditer des documents ensemble 

– une messagerie instantanée comme Slack

– les outils de visioconférence : Hangouts, Slack, Skype.

7 – Ménager des espaces d’échange informels

Enfin, pour garder les collaborateurs engagés et soudés, il faut faire en sorte qu’ils aient des espaces où ils puissent se parler de manière informelle. 

Jeremy et son équipe ont testé plusieurs formats : le lunch virtuel à deux en équipe via Webcam, les happy hours sur Hangouts le vendredi à 17h, le café sur Hangouts disponible en journée pour faire une pause entre collègues… Tout est à imaginer, et ne surtout pas négliger.

Tout à gagner 

Au cœur de la crise du Coronavirus mais également en temps normal, les managers et salariés ont tout à gagner à adopter efficacement le télétravail. 

Pour Jeremy, cette modalité de travail permet non pas un meilleur équilibre vie-pro-vie-perso, mais plutôt une intégration plus saine du travail dans sa vie. « Le télétravail qui fonctionne aux résultats déculpabilise tout le monde et redonne la liberté de travailler au moment où on est le plus efficace. Le temps n’est plus un marqueur pertinent : il est remplacé par la réalisation d’objectifs. Moi, je travaille de 4h du matin à midi, et j’organise ma vie tout autour comme je l’entends. C’est épanouissant« .

Enseigner en ligne, les recettes d’OpenClassrooms

Une battement d’ailes de chauve-souris ; d’immenses conséquences.

… Voici comment on pourrait résumer la situation actuelle pour tant de personnes, et en particulier ceux qui apprennent et ceux qui enseignent. Pour protéger chacun et revenir rapidement à la normale, il faut rester chez soi !

Pour autant, même si le COVID-19 bloque actuellement toutes les écoles et universités dans de nombreux pays, la vie continue.

Ce contexte inédit est un défi pour les professeurs, quels que soient la matière et les niveaux où ils exercent, car ils doivent passer au 100% numérique. Loin d’être une solution idéale, le tout-numérique est subi par beaucoup car peu adapté aux cours créés pour du présentiel, et chronophage à mettre en place.

Au sein de l’école en ligne OpenClassrooms, nous développons depuis 20 ans une pédagogie en ligne qui a fait ses preuves. L’enseignement y est personnalisé à l’aide de mentors experts dans leur matière, la pédagogie par projet est concrète et tournée vers l’acquisition de compétences ; la validation intervient par visioconférence pour éviter la triche. Acteur de l’éducation en ligne, nous travaillons aussi main dans la main avec des partenaires tels que l’Université de Technologies de Troyes, Centrale, Sciences Po, ou encore Stanford aux États-Unis.

Alors certes, l’enseignement en ligne est particulier. Il soulève des questions auxquelles les enseignants ne sont pas forcément confrontés, et inversement, ne répond pas aux problématiques qu’on retrouverait dans une salle de classe ou en amphi.

Certains aspects de la pédagogie en ligne peuvent en revanche inspirer. Ils peuvent servir aux professeurs, formateurs et acteurs de l’enseignement pour adapter leurs cours en ligne, dans le contexte actuel. 

Nous n’avons pas la prétention de proposer une solution miracle. Nous ne pouvons qu’imaginer à quel point les conditions d’enseignement en temps de confinement mettent à l’épreuve les professeurs. Nous espérons que cette crise soit la plus courte possible pour qu’ils puissent à nouveau enseigner dans les meilleures conditions possibles. Mais s’il est possible d’aider même à une échelle infime, nous voulons le faire.

Nous avons donc décidé de partager notre expérience de pédagogie en ligne afin que chaque enseignant puisse y trouver des points qui l’aident à adapter et réinventer sa manière d’enseigner pendant la crise du Coronavirus. Enseigner en ligne est déjà parfois suffisamment complexe… mais valider les acquis est encore une autre paire de manches ! Comment OpenClassrooms s’y prend-elle pour valider les compétences à distance ?

Mathieu vous partagera comment exploiter au mieux la pédagogie par projets, mettre à profit la validation entre pairs, prendre appui sur les meilleurs élèves et gérer au mieux la triche en ligne. 

5- S’équiper des bons outils

Outils de visioconférence, de productivité, Learning Management Systems, forums et wikis… Difficile de s’y retrouver dans la nuée des offres gratuites et payantes. Quelle solution est la meilleure, ou plutôt quelle solution est la mieux adaptée à votre situation ?

6- Améliorer sa pratique en continu

La fin de ce webinaire vous permettra de savoir comment sonder vos étudiants et analyser les statistiques d’utilisation des ressources en ligne, pour ajuster l’enseignement.

Les professeurs seront aussi invités à poser leurs questions et à partager leurs bonnes pratiques à l’ensemble de la communauté présente.

On Instagram, we’re creating a fun way for students and their families to use their brains and common household items to creatively respond to educational challenges issued by TED speakers throughout the world. Each weekday at 2pm, head over to @tededucation for a brief educational talk and challenge from a new TED speaker. We’ll be handing over our account to TED speakers of all ages, who will use Instagram Stories and Instagram Live to deliver brief educational talks and issue creative, interactive, family-oriented challenges to Instagram users around the world. Viewers can respond using their own Instagram accounts, and TED-Ed will feature the most creative responses on our channel.

EU trade in goods balance close to €200 bn surplus in 2019

In 2019, the trade in goods balance of the European Union of 27 Member States (EU) was in surplus by €197 billion, a significant increase with respect to 2018 (+€152 bn). Looking at the trend over time, after recording a small deficit between 2009 and 2011, the EU trade balance recorded a continuous surplus that peaked at €264 billion in 2016, and then decreased in 2017 and 2018.

TED Circles: A resource for community and connection

Meaningful conversations create personal connections that collectively strengthen communities. In September 2019, TED launched TED Circles, an open platform of small, volunteer-led groups that engage in conversations about ideas. In light of the physical limitations many communities currently face, TED Circles is a powerful way to continue connecting and engaging (virtually) face-to-face on a variety of topics. With TED Circles, hosts pick a TED Talk, invite people to join and facilitate a constructive conversation. Circles then share their takeaways online so that the group can gain one another’s perspectives and create global connections.

Learn more about joining a virtual Circle around the monthly themes (March: “Who has power”; April: “A changing world”; May: “Life at its fullest”) and/or special programming featured each month. In the spirit of creating space for conversation, Circles can discuss monthly themes or expert ideas to help communities think through this challenging time.

Production in construction up by 3.6% in euro area

In January 2020 compared with December 2019, seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector increased by 3.6% in the euro area (EA19) and by 3.9% in the EU27, according to first estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In December 2019, production in construction fell by 1.8% in the euro area and by 1.7% in the EU27.

Bien sûr, cette invitation reste strictement numérique !

Si le télétravail obligatoire comprend des avantages (baisse du risque de contamination, gain de temps, liberté accrue dans l’organisation de ses tâches), il existe des inconvénients bien connus eux aussi : le télétravail exige une discipline personnelle, et il peut parfois engendrer un sentiment de solitude.

La situation exceptionnelle amènera nombre d’entre nous à pratiquer le télétravail pour deux, trois semaines ou plus encore. Nous vous avons d’ores et déjà partagé nos conseils pour être efficace en télétravail, et notre première recommandation vous invite à aménager un espace de travail confortable.

Cependant, nous avons rapidement constaté chez OpenClassrooms qu’en réalité aucun d’entre nous ne travaillait de la même façon, et ce pour plusieurs raisons :

• selon que l’on vive dans un studio ou une maison, on ne bénéficie pas du même espace. Si certains disposent déjà d’un bureau, d’autres improvisent, et il n’est pas étonnant d’apercevoir lors de nos échanges en visioconférence des canapés, tables basses, lits ou autres dispositifs audacieux en guise de bureau !
• être confiné ne veut pas forcément dire être au calme ! Ceux qui vivent avec enfants, chiens, chats (ou encore plus bruyant : les trois à la fois) peuvent en témoigner. Les journées peuvent dans certains cas être plus agitées à la maison qu’au bureau.
• l’environnement joue aussi son rôle, et si les plus urbains doivent se tenir à un régime strict concernant les sorties, d’autres qui se trouvent en campagne ou en bord de mer peuvent plus facilement s’aérer (sans croiser personne, bien entendu).

Tous ces facteurs nous révèlent à quel point nous allons évoluer dans les semaines à venir dans des environnements différents, alors même qu’il y a encore quelques jours, l’espace de travail restait le dénominateur commun pour la majorité des équipes d’OpenClassrooms.

Si certains risquent de se sentir seuls parfois, d’autres ressentiront l’inverse. Tous regretteront sans doute le bureau, mais pour des raisons qui seront peut-être diamétralement opposées !

Ces changements entraînent en outre une perte de lien social que le bureau entretient à travers les pauses cafés ou encore les collègues que l’on croise dans l’ascenseur. Ces moments ponctuent nos journées et nous  permettent aussi d’échanger de façon informelle au quotidien sur le travail comme sur les tracas et bonheurs de la vie de chacun.

Face à la situation, nous avons décidé de lancer les initiatives suivantes :

• sensibiliser les collaborateurs à veiller sur le bien-être de leurs contacts. Nous invitons toute l’équipe d’OpenClassrooms, que cela concerne les échanges internes ou externes, à s’enquérir de la santé de leurs interlocuteurs, à la fois physique et morale.
• organiser des évènements à distance : vendredi, nous ferons pour la plupart d’entre-nous notre premier “apéro” en visio-conférence !
• créer des lieux de discussion dédiés à cette situation exceptionnelle, qui peuvent être un channel Slack, un groupe WhatsApp ou toute autre solution de messagerie. Si le groupe aide à dédramatiser, il permet surtout de sourire en échangeant photos, anecdotes ou des memes, échanger des conseils et astuces pour bien gérer l’expérience en confinement.

Annual inflation down to 1.2% in the euro area

The euro area annual inflation rate was 1.2% in February 2020, down from 1.4% in January. A year earlier, the rate was 1.5%. European Union annual inflation was 1.6% in February 2020, down from 1.7% in January. A year earlier, the rate was 1.6%. These figures are published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.

Euro area international trade in goods surplus €1.3 bn

Euro area: The first estimate for euro area (EA19) exports of goods to the rest of the world in January 2020 was €184.0 billion, an increase of 0.2% compared with January 2019 (€183.7 bn). Imports from the rest of the world stood at €182.7 bn, a fall of 0.2% compared with January 2019 (€183.0 bn). As a result, the euro area recorded a €1.3 bn surplus in trade in goods with the rest of the world in January 2020, compared with +€0.6 bn in January 2019. Intra-euro area trade fell to €164.2 bn in January 2020, down by 1.6% compared with January 2019.

Annual growth in labour costs at 2.4% in euro area

Hourly labour costs rose by 2.4% in the euro area (EA19) and by 2.7% in the EU27 in the fourth quarter of 2019, compared with the same quarter of the previous year. In the third quarter of 2019, hourly labour costs increased by 2.6% and 2.9% respectively. These figures are published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.

Large-scale heroin shipments from the Middle East: 2.4 tonnes of heroin seized and two high value criminal targets arrested

Police in the Netherlands, Poland and Turkey carried out the transnational joint investigation Operation Horizoncity in the beginning of March. Europol coordinated and supported the investigations over the last two years. In addition, Belgium and Germany cooperated actively. Operation Horizoncity aimed at unprecedented large-scale heroin shipments from the Middle East and big amounts of cocaine coming from Latin America. 

Comment être efficace en télétravail ?

Vous vous retrouvez soudainement en télétravail depuis la maison ? Vous vous demandez comment vous allez rester productif ? Pas de panique ! Nous avons ce qu’il vous faut.

Aménagez un espace de travail confortable

On définit les pièces dans lesquelles on travaille ou on ne travaille pas, enfin on aménage : c’est le moment de mettre du Feng Shui dans votre open space perso. On évite de placer le bureau face au mur, pour éviter de couper élan et créativité. On opte pour une vue dégagée et on s’assure d’être confortablement assis pour ne pas s’abîmer le dos !

Habillez-vous comme si vous étiez au bureau

Difficile de résister à la tentation de mettre sa tenue décontractée, n’est-ce-pas ? Pourtant, il est important de garder les mêmes rituels, se préparer et s’habiller comme si on se rendait dans un lieu de travail classique. Cela permet de garder un état d’esprit professionnel. Oubliez le jogging (ou pire le pyjama !) pour travailler depuis chez vous.

Organisez-vous un emploi du temps

Soudain, vos ex-trajets en métro libèrent du temps, vous devenez donc plus flexible. Fini les pauses déjeuners ou cafés avec les collègues….ce qui vous donne une immense opportunité de vous fixer une organisation de travail à votre rythme.

• Divisez votre temps dédié à vos projets et celui à vos conférences téléphoniques. 
• Utilisez la méthode Pomodoro pour gérer votre temps : définissez des plages horaires de travail –  disons de 30’ jusqu’à 1h30 max – et les pauses nécessaires qui peuvent être de courte durée comme 10’ ou de longue pause déjeuner. 
• Assurez vous de programmer tout votre planning dans votre agenda de façon à être alerté pendant la journée. Avec le temps, vous vous améliorerez dans la planification de vos journées

Faites des pauses bien méritées

Au bureau, il y a la machine à café – et les collègues – mais chez soi, c’est parfois plus compliqué.  Utilisez vos pauses pour respirer et vous aérer, vous n’en serez que plus productif !

Vous pouvez aussi profiter d’être à la maison pour décompresser en faisant du sport devant une vidéo Youtube ou même prendre une douche. Pourquoi ne pas lancer une machine ou vider le lave-vaisselle pour vous changer les idées ? Ces tâches vous donneront le sentiment d’accomplir quelque chose et vous libéreront du temps pour des activités plus sympa.

Attention, ne tombez pas dans le piège de travailler d’une traite et sans pause. Vous ne tiendrez alors pas sur la longueur !

Gardez contact avec vos collègues 

Travailler depuis la maison peut nous donner un sentiment d’isolement. Essayez de reproduire quelques une de vos interactions régulières avec vos collègues en les planifiant à travers des conférences téléphoniques. Ces échanges vous connecteront et vous engageront à votre environnement de travail.

N’hésitez pas également à utiliser des messageries instantanées telles que Slack ou WhatsApp pour les échanges plus informels. Si vous n’avez pas ces outils mis en place, référez vous à votre responsable pour voir lequel est le plus adapté. 

Faites des points d’équipe

Toujours dans un esprit d’échange évoqué plus haut, il est important de maintenir une dynamique d’équipe même si elle n’est pas physiquement rassemblée. Heureusement pour nous, grâce aux nouvelles technologies il est aujourd’hui plus facile de travailler ensemble à distance.

Planifiez des points réguliers avec votre équipe sur le même rythme que vous avez au bureau. Cela peut-être une conférence vidéo quotidienne ou hebdomadaire. Connectez toute l’équipe à travers une vidéo simule bien l’expérience “au bureau”, voir les expressions de vos collègues renforcent les échanges. 

Dotez-vous des bons outils 

Puisque le télétravail augmente, le nombre d’outils collaboratifs en ligne se multiplie. Ce n’est pas le choix qui manque ! Parmi nos préférés :

• Pour les conférences vidéos, Google Hangouts, Zoom ou encore Skype deviennent vos meilleurs amis. 
• Pour collaborer sur des documents, tableaux ou présentations, adoptez Google Drive ou Microsoft Onedrive qui permettent le partage de documents et le travail collaboratif. Ceci couplé à une conférence vidéo, vous voilà dans la même salle que vos collègues.
• Pour gérer les contrats, il y a Adobe Acrobat, Docusign ou Concord. Par ailleurs, attention à ne pas partager des documents confidentiels par email. Utilisez les applications évoquées qui comprennent des messages cryptés.
• Pour garder un oeil sur la progression de chacun, on trouve également plein d’applications de gestion de projet. Ce que nous utilisons chez OpenClassrooms : Bootcamp, Trello, Asana ou Airtable.

Euro area job vacancy rate at 2.2%

Spain and Portugal take illegal ivory off the black market

The Spanish Civil Guard (Guardia Civil) and the Portuguese Civil Guard (Guardia Nacional Republicana) have broken up a criminal network trafficking ivory online.  The investigation led to the seizure of 355 ivory figurines and 2 tusks in Spain and Portugal, all worth about €120 000 on the black market. The operation, which was supported by Europol, resulted in the arrest of eight individuals suspected of crimes against wildlife.

With the active support of Europol, the Slovak National Crime Agency (Národná Kriminálna Agentúra) has seized hundreds of illegal guns and ammunition, including decommissioned guns that had been restored to their full operation, as part of the Operational Taskforce LYNA. The Slovak police found the weapons in a series of house searches in the region of Košice and charged six individuals for their involvement in this illegal gun-running operation.

Industrial production up by 2.3% in euro area

In January 2020 compared with December 2019, seasonally adjusted industrial production rose by 2.3% in the euro area (EA19) and by 2.0% in the EU27, according to estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In December 2019, industrial production fell by 1.8% in the euro area and by 1.6% in the EU27.

Balkan cocaine cartel taken down in Montenegro

A large Balkan criminal network trafficking drugs, mainly cocaine, from source countries to Europe has been dismantled in a large international operation. This hit has severely disrupted one of the smuggling routes from Central America to Europe.  This complex international investigation was led by Montenegro and supported by Europol, and law enforcement authorities from Austria, Croatia, France, Portugal, Serbia and Slovenia. 

Fake love: devious men luring young women into prostitution busted in Spain and Romania

The so-called lover boy method entails the recruitment of a victim by establishing a fake romantic relationship between one of the members of the criminal network and a targeted potential victim of trafficking. Once the victim has fallen in love, the deception/involvement of the victim into criminal activity is much easier. When the victims of trafficking are young girls, the younger traffickers are mainly male and applying the lover boy method to recruit the victims.

TED2020 postponed

Update 5/18/20: TED2020 will not be held in Vancouver, BC. Starting May 18, 2020, the conference is being convened as an eight-week virtual experience.

Based on a community-wide decision, TED2020 will move from April 20-24 to July 26-30 — and will still be held in Vancouver, BC.

With the COVID-19 virus spreading across the planet, we’re facing many challenges and uncertainties, which is why we feel passionately that TED2020 matters more than ever. Knowing our original April dates would no longer work, we sought counsel and guidance from our vast community. Amidst our network of artists, entrepreneurs, innovators, creators, scientists and more, we also count experts in health and medicine among our ranks. After vetting all of the options, we offered registered attendees the choice to either postpone the event or hold a virtual version. The majority expressed a preference for a summer TED, so that’s the official plan.

We’ve spent the past year putting together a spectacular program designed to chart the future. Our speakers are extraordinary. You, our beloved community, are also incredible. Somehow, despite the global health crisis, we will use this moment to share insights, spark action and host meaningful discussions of the ideas that matter most in the world.

As head of TED Chris Anderson noted in his letter to attendees: “Our north star in making decisions has been your health and safety. This is a moment when community matters like never before. I believe passionately in the power, wisdom and collective spirit of this community. We’re stronger together.”

GDP up by 0.1% and employment by 0.3% in the euro area

Seasonally adjusted GDP rose by 0.1% in the euro area (EA19) and by 0.2% in the EU27 during the fourth quarter of 2019, compared with the previous quarter, according to an estimate published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In the third quarter of 2019, GDP had grown by 0.3% in the euro area and by 0.4% in the EU27.

68 arrested for €10 million ‘fast and furious’ – style heists on moving lorries

An unprecedented law enforcement operation involving 5 countries has resulted in the takedown of one of the most active networks of cargo thieves operating across Europe. Composed of over 100 members, this organised crime group is believed to have committed over 150 acts of cargo theft for a total estimated damage worth in excess of €10 million.  The coordinated actions took place under the umbrella of a joint investigation, code-named ‘ARROW’, coordinated by Europol at the international level.

€7.9 million of illegal products seized in a hit against medicine traffickers

Europol supported a pan-European operation targeting the illicit online and offline trafficking of misused and counterfeit medicines. The operation, led by the French National Gendarmerie (Central Office against Environmental and Public Health Crime - OCLAESP) and the Finnish Customs (Tulli), involved law enforcement authorities from 11* EU Member States, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and the United States. The operation was also supported by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), Eurojust and the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF).

Employment grew in 9 out of 10 EU regions in 2018

42 Rolex thieves who stole over €1 million in jewellery arrested in Spain and Romania
