Why is it that legal action against Israel fails? The laws exist

Par : amarynth — 21 mai 2025 à 10:42

Pascal Lottaz speaks with Dr. Dr. Alfred de Zayas, a Professor at the Geneva School of Diplomacy, who used to work as a senior lawyer in the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and later became the first UN Independent Expert on International Order.

This is not a dry legal discussion.  Surprisingly, the legal issues are not arcane, and we can easily understand them.  The systems that are set up initially with good intent are so deeply corrupt that it is easy to ‘make genocide’ if you have 30 or 40 countries that stand with you or do not object. It is a crying shame.  Pile on top of that the level of propaganda that we see, the script is easily flipped.  While Hamas has a full right under international law to defend itself, they become the guilty party in the propaganda domain.

The gentlemen discuss that there are no morals or ethics.  There is an ideological (and I would argue psychological) imperative to prove that Zionism (and therefore the previous decisions to steal a homeland for the European Jews) was a fine decision by all those who were complicit and are complicit now. They stole it fair and square. Zionism therefore has to succeed.

I would recommend hearing out this discussion even though it is long.  De Zeyas refers to the sheer hatred against Francesca Albanese.  Currently there is a major attempt to try and frame her with financial irregularities.

There is a short discussion of how Israel came to be. The entity was born in terrorism, racism, assassination and pretense. One cannot help but think of the long advertised history of the supposed very special relationship with a deity who Gave Them This Land. Hey Presto! Enter deity on the stage, and now they are God’s Chosen and the most Moral Military in the world. That is only part of the mythical fairy story that the general population gets to imbibe. For those who like conspiricy, this is a continuing real live one.

FM Lavrov: Russia ‘not chasing anyone’ for sanctions relief

Par : amarynth — 15 avril 2025 à 01:24
The US restrictions have undermined bilateral trade, the foreign minister has said

Trade between Russia and the US has seen a major downturn as a result of Washington’s illegal sanctions,  Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said. However, Moscow is “not chasing after anyone” to lift the restrictions, according to the top diplomat.

Washington and its allies placed punitive restrictions on Moscow after Crimea’s reunification with Russia in 2014, and later over Moscow’s alleged meddling in American elections. The sanctions were drastically expanded by the former US President Joe Biden’s administration following the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022.

Speaking to Kommersant on Monday, Lavrov said the globalization of the world economy had been destroyed after sanctions became “the only tool of [Biden’s] foreign policy.”

He noted that the administration of President Donald Trump had begun discussing trade and economic cooperation with Moscow already during initial contacts, but made no secret of pursuing material gain in its foreign policy decisions.

According to Lavrov, economic cooperation between the countries has dropped “by about 95% compared to the peak of around $30 billion ten years ago, mostly due to illegal sanctions.”

Lavrov said future cooperation would depend entirely on Washington, stressing, “We are not chasing anyone or asking for sanctions to be lifted.”

Russia has repeatedly condemned the Western sanctions as illegal and ineffective, saying they have failed to destabilize its economy or isolate it from the global financial system. Sanctions have instead backfired on the countries that imposed them, while Russia has focused on shifting trade to Asia and the Global South, primarily China and India.

In March, Trump said Washington might consider lifting certain sanctions on Russia in order to advance the Black Sea Grain Initiative – a key maritime agreement that ensures the safety of navigation in the Black Sea – as a step towards settling the Ukraine conflict.

On Saturday, Trump prolonged the restrictions for another year, based on the supposition that Moscow still poses a serious threat to American national security.

Lavrov said Russia had to avoid relying on foreign partners in critical sectors even if sanctions are lifted, echoing President Vladimir Putin’s calls to preserve economic sovereignty.

This summary of Mr Lavrov’s discussion with Kommersant is from RT.  RT represented certain words from Mr Lavov in scare quotes.  Take a look:

Trade between Russia and the US has seen a major downturn as a result of Washington’s “illegal sanctions.”

Again, I don’t know why RT does this, but they are not doing anyone a favor.  The sanctions are illegal, not “illegal.”

The takeaway is that Russia is not enamored with the US attempt at negotiations.  The White House BS Barbie announced that there are no tariffs on Russia, as there are existing negotiations. Instead, there is almost no trade and no numbers to use for the goofy numbers (Michael Hudson quote) for a tariff amount.  My expectation is that ‘talks’ between Russia and the US will reduce in importance, as the US has not carried out even one of the Russian “test agreements” between itself and Russia.  The battlefield will decide what Russia does with Ukraine, not the US.
