Aux États-Unis, vingt-trois États ainsi que le District de Columbia ont déjà légalisé l'usage récréatif du cannabis ces dernières années et d'autres, comme la Floride, voteront sur cette question en novembre. Cette évolution du cadre législatif a entraîné une augmentation spectaculaire de la consommation : en 2023, 62 millions de personnes consommaient du cannabis aux États-Unis. Cependant, la légalisation du cannabis ne signifie pas que sa consommation régulière ne présente aucun danger.
D'après la recherche, les problèmes de santé liés à la consommation de cannabis ne se limiteraient pas à la sécheresse buccale ou à la fatigue, mais incluraient également des maladies physiques et mentales. Une étude récente établit même un lien entre la substance et les maladies cardiaques.
« Le cannabis est souvent associé à Bob Marley. Pour beaucoup, c'est un produit naturel, issu de mère Nature, et inoffensif », déclare Marco Solmi, psychiatre à l'université d'Ottawa. Pourtant, son analyse de la substance publiée dans la revue BMJ fait état d'un grand nombre de problèmes potentiels.
Le cannabis n'est pas dangereux comme le sont les opioïdes, indique Deborah Hasin, épidémiologiste à l'université Columbia, qui a mené des recherches sur l'usage et l'abus du cannabis. « Personne ne meurt d'une overdose de cannabis », ajoute-t-elle. « Mais la substance peut avoir beaucoup d'autres conséquences sur la santé physique et psychologique. »
Certains de ces problèmes peuvent être attribués à la puissance accrue des variétés disponibles de nos jours. Les produits actuels, « ce n'est plus l'herbe de nos grands-mères », déclarait Maria Rahmandar, directrice médicale du programme de prévention et d'usage du cannabis au Lurie Children’s Hospital de Chicago, lors d'un débat récent sur le cannabis aux Académies nationales des sciences, d'ingénierie et de médecine.
« Ces produits sont bien plus puissants et se présentent sous un si grand nombre de formulations qu'ils n'ont plus rien à voir avec les produits des années 1960 ou 1970 », indique Rahmandar.
La façon dont la population consomme du cannabis de nos jours augmente la quantité de substance active ingérée. Le vapotage et les produits comestibles délivrent généralement une plus grande quantité de tétrahydrocannabinol (THC) que les cigarettes roulées et fumées, indique Rahmandar.
L'un des risques moins connus, quoique préoccupants, de l'usage régulier du cannabis est la psychose induite par une substance, dans laquelle le consommateur fait face à des idées délirantes ou à une paranoïa, entend des voix et perd temporairement le contact avec la réalité. La psychose disparaît généralement après quelques jours, mais nécessite dans certains cas une hospitalisation.
Ce trouble peut se produire avec n'importe quelle substance psychoactive, mais le risque pour le cannabis est important, supérieur à celui de la cocaïne, indique Solmi.
« Vous avez plus de risques de développer une psychose induite par une substance si vous consommez du cannabis tous les jours, mais je ne peux pas vous donner de quantité sûre qui pourrait empêcher ce problème », ajoute-t-il. Les jeunes adultes de sexe masculin sont les plus vulnérables.
Autre constat particulièrement préoccupant, près d'un tiers des personnes qui subissent une psychose induite par une substance finissent par développer le trouble plus permanent de schizophrénie, indique Solmi.
Des études observationnelles associent également d'autres troubles psychologiques à un usage fréquent du cannabis. Dans sa revue de la littérature scientifique, Solmi constate une augmentation de la dépression ainsi qu'une recrudescence de la violence chez les couples. En outre, puisque le cannabis provoque une déficience cognitive, ainsi qu'une déficience visuelle, les accidents de voiture ont augmenté chez les utilisateurs qui conduisent sous l'influence de la substance.
Les experts s'inquiètent particulièrement des impacts sur la santé mentale des adolescents. Aux États-Unis, environ 17 % des adolescents âgés de quinze-seize ans indiquent consommer du cannabis alors qu'aucun État n'a légalisé le cannabis en dessous de vingt et un ans.
Le risque de subir une dépression à l'entrée dans l'âge adulte est supérieur de 37 % chez les adolescents qui consomment régulièrement du cannabis par rapport aux non-consommateurs. Les taux de suicide sont également plus élevés.
« À l'adolescence, le cerveau traverse une phase de maturation et de développement. Ainsi, lorsque des substances entrent en jeu, elles ont plus d'impact que sur les cerveaux adultes », résume Rahmandar.
La consommation régulière de cannabis peut également entraîner des problèmes physiques majeurs.
Les consommateurs réguliers présentent un risque plus élevé de crise cardiaque, d'accident vasculaire cérébral et d'autres pathologies cardiaques, selon une vaste étude de population publiée dans le Journal of the American Heart Association en février. Les chercheurs ont ainsi constaté une augmentation de la fréquence des crises cardiaques de 25 % dans ce groupe et de 42 % pour les accidents vasculaires cérébraux.
Cela se produit probablement parce que le THC affecte le flux sanguin dans les artères et parce que les récepteurs de cannabinoïdes sont présents dans l'ensemble du système cardiovasculaire, indiquent les auteurs. Les personnes fumant du cannabis augmentent également leur risque de maladie cardiaque à cause des particules inhalées en plus du THC.
D'autres études associent le cannabis à une réduction des nausées et des vomissements après la chimiothérapie, mais la revue publiée dans BMJ indique que les consommateurs réguliers peuvent en fait souffrir d'une pathologie qui accentue les vomissements, connue sous le nom d'hyperémèse. « C'est rare, mais plus il y a de consommateurs, plus le nombre de cas augmente », indique Hasin.
Les femmes enceintes qui consomment régulièrement du cannabis courent un risque supérieur d'accoucher prématurément et d'avoir un bébé dangereusement petit. De plus amples recherches seront nécessaires pour déterminer si ce phénomène provient de la substance en elle-même ou d'autres facteurs liés au mode de vie des femmes qui choisissent de consommer du cannabis pendant leur grossesse, indique Solmi.
Beaucoup pensent que le cannabis est moins dangereux que l'alcool, mais un consommateur de cannabis sur cinq développe une addiction à la substance. Les symptômes du trouble de consommation du cannabis sont similaires aux autres substances.
« Si la personne ressent un besoin irrépressible de consommer du cannabis, si elle ressent le besoin d'en consommer toujours plus pour ressentir les mêmes effets, si elle a déjà essayé d'arrêter ou de ralentir sans succès » ou présente l'un des nombreux autres symptômes, « c'est un signal d'alerte », indique Hasin.
Comme avec l'alcool, l'addiction au cannabis peut mener à des problèmes personnels, financiers, juridiques et sanitaires.
Certains groupes sont particulièrement exposés à ce risque d'addiction. Chez les vétérans, les taux ont augmenté substantiellement depuis 2005, comme le constate Hasin dans son étude. Elle attribue ce phénomène à une combinaison de différents facteurs : la puissance accrue des produits et la tolérance de la loi vis-à-vis de la substance, ainsi que le recours probable au cannabis comme automédication contre la douleur chronique et les troubles psychiatriques. Le département des Anciens combattants des États-Unis est parvenu à réduire la prescription d'opioïdes non nécessaires aux vétérans, donc certains d'entre eux se tournent peut-être vers le cannabis », suggère-t-elle.
Chez les plus jeunes également, le risque de développer ce trouble est important. Les personnes qui commencent à consommer du cannabis à un jeune âge ou qui présentent des antécédents familiaux d'addiction augmentent sensiblement leur probabilité de développer des troubles.
« Les personnes âgées de moins de 25 ans devraient totalement éviter le cannabis », propose Solmi. « Ils n'ont aucune idée de leurs futures réactions. Ils jouent avec leur cerveau et avec leur santé. »
Pour tous les autres, la modération est essentielle.
« Ce n'est pas une substance banale qui ne présente aucun risque », souligne Rahmandar. « Pour la plupart des consommateurs, tout ira bien, mais personne ne peut prédire qui développera des problèmes. »

“We cannot afford for Russia to win this war. Otherwise, US and European interests will be damaged. It’s not a matter of generosity alone; it’s not a matter of support for Ukraine because we love the Ukrainian people. It is in our own interests, and it is also in the interests of the US as a global player, the one who has to be perceived as a reliable partner and a security provider to the allies. This is why we call on the US to open and approve the supplementary budget,” he pointed out.
Borrell added that the EU was making every possible effort “to support Ukraine more and quicker.”

Nous nous trouvons à 250 mètres d'altitude, à bord d'un hélicoptère, avec une équipe de scientifiques, au-dessus de la forêt boréale englobant le parc national de Wood Buffalo, au Canada, quand l’un d’entre eux s’est écrié: «Oiseau à 9 heures ! » Paul Spring, le pilote, a alors viré sur la gauche, inclinant l’appareil pour mieux voir l’un des innombrables plans d’eau s’étendant à perte de vue. Au milieu de la zone marécageuse, nous pouvions distinguer deux taches blanches, hautes d’environ 1,50 m au-dessus du niveau du sol.

Sentant l’approche des humains, les parents grues ont battu de leurs ailes géantes aux extrémités noires et se sont enfuis, laissant derrière eux leur progéniture incapable de voler. Par talkie-walkie, Paul Spring informa le groupe: «Je surveille le petit. Il est juste en dessous de l’hélico. Venez vers l’appareil. »
Aussitôt renseignée, l’équipe s’est lancée dans les broussailles, avançant aussi vite que le terrain détrempé le lui permettait. Dans une manœuvre parfaitement rodée, John Conkin s’est approché du gruon, a saisi son bec, sa tête et ses pattes, et l’a soigneusement calé sous son bras.
Coup d’œil sur le chrono : 6 minutes et 36 secondes. L’oiseau était maîtrisé, mais la partie plus technique restait à venir. En sueur, le groupe a déballé son matériel. Dave Brandt, biologiste chevronné, tenait le gruon sur ses genoux, guidant John Conkin pendant que celui-ci fixait un émetteur sur une patte et des bagues de couleur (bleu, jaune, vert) sur l’autre. En même temps, la vétérinaire Sandie Black lui faisait un bilan de santé, vérifiant ses yeux et son état corporel. Elle effectua plusieurs prélèvements –sang, plumes, salive et matières fécales– pour les analyser ensuite en laboratoire afin de déterminer son sexe et savoir s’il avait été exposé à des produits chimiques ou à des maladies, dont la forme hautement pathogène de la grippe aviaire (IAHP). Il fut aussi pesé.
Tous parlaient à voix basse. Une fois le travail terminé, Dave Brandt a porté l’animal jusqu’au bord du marais et l’a posé délicatement sur le sol avant de filer. Ce gruon – désormais connu sous le nom de 15J – s’est enfui dans la direction opposée, s’enfonçant dans le marais pour y retrouver ses parents.

Let’s start with the possible chain of events that may have led to the Crocus terror attack. This is as explosive as it gets. Intel sources in Moscow discreetly confirm this is one of the FSB’s prime lines of investigation.
December 4, 2023. Former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen Mark Milley, only 3 months after his retirement, tells CIA mouthpiece The Washington Post: “There should be no Russian who goes to sleep without wondering if they’re going to get their throat slit in the middle of the night (…) You gotta get back there and create a campaign behind the lines.”
January 4, 2024: In an interview with ABC News, “spy chief” Kyrylo Budanov lays down the road map: strikes “deeper and deeper” into Russia.
January 31: Victoria Nuland travels to Kiev and meets Budanov. Then, in a dodgy press conference at night in the middle of an empty street, she promises “nasty surprises” to Putin: code for asymmetric war.
February 22: Nuland shows up at a Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) event and doubles down on the “nasty surprises” and asymmetric war. That may be interpreted as the definitive signal for Budanov to start deploying dirty ops.
February 25: The New York Times publishes a story about CIA cells in Ukraine: nothing that Russian intel does not already know.
Then, a lull until March 5 – when crucial shadow play may have been in effect. Privileged scenario: Nuland was a key dirty ops plotter alongside the CIA and the Ukrainian GUR (Budanov). Rival Deep State factions got hold of it and maneuvered to “terminate” her one way or another – because Russian intel would have inevitably connected the dots.
Yet Nuland, in fact, is not “retired” yet; she’s still presented as Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs and showed up recently in Rome for a G7-related meeting, although her new job, in theory, seems to be at Columbia University (a Hillary Clinton maneuver).
Meanwhile, the assets for a major “nasty surprise” are already in place, in the dark, and totally off radar. The op cannot be called off.
March 5: Little Blinken formally announces Nuland’s “retirement”.
March 7: At least one Tajik among the four-member terror commando visits the Crocus venue and has his photo taken.
March 7-8 at night: U.S. and British embassies simultaneously announce a possible terror attack on Moscow, telling their nationals to avoid “concerts” and gatherings within the next two days.
March 9: Massively popular Russian patriotic singer Shaman performs at Crocus. That may have been the carefully chosen occasion targeted for the “nasty surprise” – as it falls only a few days before the presidential elections, from March 15 to 17. But security at Crocus was massive, so the op is postponed.
March 22: The Crocus City Hall terror attack.
ISIS-K: the ultimate can of worms
The Budanov connection is betrayed by the modus operandi– similar to previous Ukraine intel terror attacks against Daria Dugina and Vladimir Tatarsky: close reconnaissance for days, even weeks; the hit; and then a dash for the border.
And that brings us to the Tajik connection.
There seem to be holes aplenty in the narrative concocted by the ragged bunch turned mass killers: following an Islamist preacher on Telegram; offered what was later established as a puny 500 thousand rubles (roughly $4,500) for the four of them to shoot random people in a concert hall; sent half of the funds via Telegram; directed to a weapons cache where they find AK-12s and hand grenades.
The videos show that they used the machine guns like pros; shots were accurate, short bursts or single fire; no panic whatsoever; effective use of hand grenades; fleeing the scene in a flash, just melting away, almost in time to catch the “window” that would take them across the border to Ukraine.
All that takes training. And that also applies to facing nasty counter-interrogation. Still, the FSB seems to have broken them all – quite literally.
A potential handler has surfaced, named Abdullo Buriyev. Turkish intel had earlier identified him as a handler for ISIS-K, or Wilayat Khorasan in Afghanistan. One of the members of the Crocus commando told the FSB their “acquaintance” Abdullo helped them to buy the car for the op.
And that leads us to the massive can of worms to end them all: ISIS-K.
The alleged emir of ISIS-K, since 2020, is an Afghan Tajik, Sanaullah Ghafari. He was not killed in Afghanistan in June 2023, as the Americans were spinning: he may be currently holed up in Balochistan in Pakistan.
Yet the real person of interest here is not Tajik Ghafari but Chechen Abdul Hakim al-Shishani, the former leader of the jihadi outfit Ajnad al-Kavkaz (“Soldiers of the Caucasus”), who was fighting against the government in Damascus in Idlib and then escaped to Ukraine because of a crackdown by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) – in another one of those classic inter-jihadi squabbles.
Shishani was spotted on the border near Belgorod during the recent attack concocted by Ukrainian intel inside Russia. Call it another vector of the “nasty surprises”.
Shishani had been in Ukraine for over two years and has acquired citizenship. He is in fact the sterling connection between the nasty motley crue Idlib gangs in Syria and GUR in Kiev – as his Chechens worked closely with Jabhat al-Nusra, which was virtually indistinguishable from ISIS.
Shishani, fiercely anti-Assad, anti-Putin and anti-Kadyrov, is the classic “moderate rebel” advertised for years as a “freedom fighter” by the CIA and the Pentagon.
Some of the four hapless Tajiks seem to have followed ideological/religious indoctrination on the internet dispensed by Wilayat Khorasan, or ISIS-K, in a chat room called Rahnamo ba Khuroson.
The indoctrination game happened to be supervised by a Tajik, Salmon Khurosoni. He’s the guy who made the first move to recruit the commando. Khurosoni is arguably a messenger between ISIS-K and the CIA.
The problem is the ISIS-K modus operandi for any attack never features a fistful of dollars: the promise is Paradise via martyrdom. Yet in this case it seems it’s Khurosoni himself who has approved the 500 thousand ruble reward.
After handler Buriyev relayed the instructions, the commando sent the bayat – the ISIS pledge of allegiance – to Khurosoni. Ukraine may not have been their final destination. Another foreign intel connection – not identified by FSB sources – would have sent them to Turkey, and then Afghanistan.
That’s exactly where Khurosoni is to be found. Khurosoni may have been the ideological mastermind of Crocus. But, crucially, he’s not the client.

The Ukrainian love affair with terror gangs
Ukrainian intel, SBU and GUR, have been using the “Islamic” terror galaxy as they please since the first Chechnya war in the mid-1990s. Milley and Nuland of course knew it, as there were serious rifts in the past, for instance, between GUR and the CIA.
Following the symbiosis of any Ukrainian government post-1991 with assorted terror/jihadi outfits, Kiev post-Maidan turbo-charged these connections especially with Idlib gangs, as well as north Caucasus outfits, from the Chechen Shishani to ISIS in Syria and then ISIS-K. GUR routinely aims to recruit ISIS and ISIS-K denizens via online chat rooms. Exactly the modus operandi that led to Crocus.
One “Azan” association, founded in 2017 by Anvar Derkach, a member of the Hizb ut-Tahrir, actually facilitates terrorist life in Ukraine, Tatars from Crimea included – from lodging to juridical assistance.
The FSB investigation is establishing a trail: Crocus was planned by pros – and certainly not by a bunch of low-IQ Tajik dregs. Not by ISIS-K, but by GUR. A classic false flag, with the clueless Tajiks under the impression that they were working for ISIS-K.
The FSB investigation is also unveiling the standard modus operandi of online terror, everywhere. A recruiter focuses on a specific profile; adapts himself to the candidate, especially his – low – IQ; provides him with the minimum necessary for a job; then the candidate/executor become disposable.

As for ISIS, everyone seriously following West Asia knows that’s a gigantic diversionist scam, complete with the Americans transferring ISIS operatives from the Al-Tanf base to the eastern Euphrates, and then to Afghanistan after the Hegemon’s humiliating “withdrawal”. Project ISIS-K actually started in 2021, after it became pointless to use ISIS goons imported from Syria to block the relentless progress of the Taliban.
Ace Russian war correspondent Marat Khairullin has added another juicy morsel to this funky salad: he convincingly unveils the MI6 angle in the Crocus City Hall terror attack (in English here, in two parts, posted by “S”).
The FSB is right in the middle of the painstaking process of cracking most, if not all ISIS-K-CIA/MI6 connections. Once it’s all established, there will be hell to pay.
But that won’t be the end of the story. Countless terror networks are not controlled by Western intel – although they will work with Western intel via middlemen, usually Salafist “preachers” who deal with Saudi/Gulf intel agencies.
The case of the CIA flying “black” helicopters to extract jihadists from Syria and drop them in Afghanistan is more like an exception – in terms of direct contact – than the norm. So the FSB and the Kremlin will be very careful when it comes to directly accusing the CIA and MI6 of managing these networks.
But even with plausible deniability, the Crocus investigation seems to be leading exactly to where Moscow wants it: uncovering the crucial middleman. And everything seems to be pointing to Budanov and his goons.
Ramzan Kadyrov dropped an extra clue. He said the Crocus “curators” chose on purpose to instrumentalize elements of an ethnic minority – Tajiks – who barely speak Russian to open up new wounds in a multinational nation where dozens of ethnicities live side by side for centuries.

Moscow’s Terror Explosion – Macron’s NATO Troops to Ukraine

Automatic gun-shooting by 5 men in black took place Friday evening 22 March in the Crocus City Concert Hall, attached to a shopping mall, at the outskirts of Moscow. The terror attack preceded a concert. The hall was therefore crowded with people, panicking for leaving it. The assault was followed by a massive explosion.
The official fatality as of 23 March stands at 133. Dozens of people were injured.
The Islamic State (IS) – a CIA creation – claimed credit for the attack.
However, the political end of this attack is more complex.
On March 7, 2024, the US Embassy in Russia warned Moscow that a terror attack may take place in Moscow within the next few weeks. No further details.
Is it one of the now fashionable “predictive planning” stunts?
On the same day, the same US Embassy in Moscow warned US citizens in Moscow not to visit shopping malls. How much did the US know?
Speculations abound. Was this an empty warning to destabilize Russia and Russian elections? Or was it one more provocation to pull Russia into a larger conflict?
On the day of the attack, John Kirby, spokesman for National Security at the White House said in a Press Conference that there were no indications that Ukraine had anything to do with the attack. In early March Washington just had some indications that a terror assault may hit Moscow.
“Some indications”? – Why then the warning on the same 7 March to US citizens in Moscow not to visit any shopping malls?
It could not be more obvious that a hidden agenda is being played by Washington – and, may be added, by NATO and Europe?
Whether the Islamic State, Al Qaeda or another CIA / MI6 terror creation – or even Kiev directly, was involved in this mass-killing is irrelevant, because whoever acted, did so on behalf of US / NATO and the collective West.

It is no coincidence that French President Macron practically simultaneously sends officially 2,000 French NATO troops to Ukraine. “Officially”, because western / NATO military advisers, trainers and coaches for Kiev’s Nazi-military have been in Kiev for quite a while.
Polish Foreign Minister, Radoslaw Sikorski has called it an open secret that Western soldiers are in Ukraine. German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz said, “there are already some troops from big countries in Ukraine.” (See this)
This is clearly the crossing of President Putin’s Red Line. Mr. Macron knows it, those who mandate the crossing of the Red Line, like the WEF and those dark Deep State Cult forces behind the WEF, know it – and Moscow knows that they know it.
Is it a provocation to pull Moscow into a hot war?
And the Moscow Concert Hall assault being a doubling-up of the Red-Line crossing?
This happening in the Ides of March, and just after the confirmed landslide re-election of President Putin on 17 March 2024.
Ides of March, is the day in the ancient Roman calendar that falls approximately on Mid-March and is associated with misfortune and doom. The date is also known as the date on which Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 BC. Most US wars were initiated in March. Is it a symbolic cult ritual of the west?
It would perfectly fit into the Death Cult of the Great Reset (WEF) and the UN Agenda 2030, which are currently plaguing humanity – worldwide.
There are other non-coincidences. The 24 March 2024 is the 25th anniversary of the 1999 US-NATO assault on Yugoslavia (Ides of March) – currently being commemorated by a three-day Conference 22-24 March 2024, in Belgrade.
The destruction and dismembering of Yugoslavia were also planned by a long hand. After Josip Tito’s death in May 1980 (he served in several leadership positions of Yugoslavia from 1943 – 1980) – there were some lesser communist successors, who were vulnerable to western / NATO “pressures”, and let what was a solid Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) deteriorate, western-style.
In 1990 Slobodan Milošević, President of Serbia became de facto President of the SFR Yugoslavia attempting to hold the federation together – which in the ten years after President Tito’s departure was financially destabilized by the west. In the 1990s the SFR Yugoslavia was one of the first “cases” where the World Bank, IMF Washington Consensus was applied full-scale – indebting to destabilize, create internal unrest – and divide.
Mr. Milošević was captured, detained at the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) prison in The Hague. He was poisoned on March 11, 2006 in his prison cell – shortly before his scheduled appearance at the International Criminal Tribunal on Yugoslavia (ICTY).
Once divided with constant civil unrest, there was “justification” for western rescue, i.e., bombing Yugoslavia literally into bits and pieces – leaving what we have today, numerous so-called independent former Yugoslavian Federal States – being economically and with “sanctions” controlled by the west.
This is the strategy Washington wants to apply to the Russian Federation – destabilizing it, fracturing it, Regime Change, and then taking it over.
Imagine! – The world’s biggest riches in the world’s largest country, absorbed or subdued by the (still) wannabe US Empire – and its European vassals.
It looks like the west wants a hot war with Russia, come hell or high water. Yes, it would be hell for Europe – for the third time in just over 100 years, and three-times for the same purpose – taking control of Russia, WWI, WWII and now WWIII?
A war – possibly nuclear – of which nobody can predict the outcome. As President Putin repeatedly said – there will be no winners, just absolute destruction.
Under no circumstances will Russia allow a take-over by an arrogant, criminal west. With Russian military’s far-superiority over US and NATO forces, this will not happen.
In the current Middle-East scenario, western leaders are supporting and funding the Israeli-Zionists, literally destroying and mass-killing – wiping out – Palestine, depicting an arrogance blinded by the zest for unlimited might, possibly driving humanity into a bottomless abyss.
A cleansing of this genocidal western “superiority” may bring birth of a new civilization – an evolution to a more spiritual and less material humanity.

Si vous entendez « plongée sous-marine », vous pensez certainement aux vacances et à l’observation de toutes sortes de faunes et de flores marines dans des eaux turquoise de paradis tropicaux. Cependant, à des dizaines de mètres de profondeur se cache un autre monde, bien loin des baignades relaxantes le long des récifs ensoleillés : celui de la soudure sous-marine.
« Nous assurons le bon fonctionnement du monde au-dessus de l’eau, en effectuant le travail difficile sous la surface », explique Joseph Purvis, ancien soudeur sous-marin. « J’ai été très fier de faire partie de ce monde exaltant et éprouvant pendant six ans. »
Les nombreux dangers de ce métier attirent l’attention des médias depuis des années, si bien qu’une nouvelle tendance a récemment vu le jour sur les réseaux sociaux : des jeunes se filment en train d’annoncer avoir accepté un emploi de soudeur sous-marin à leurs proches afin de capturer leurs réactions, souvent pleines de surprises et d’incrédulité, cette activité étant devenue célèbre pour son haut niveau de spécialisation et pour les risques qu’elle implique. La soudure sous-marine mérite-t-elle sa réputation ?
Les soudeurs sous-marins, aussi appelés soudeurs-plongeurs ou scaphandriers, plongent avec un équipement spécialisé conçu pour résister aux difficultés inhérentes à l’environnement des eaux profondes. Lorsqu’ils sautent du bateau pour rejoindre le lieu de leur mission, ils sont vêtus d’une épaisse combinaison, étanche ou non, et portent un casque doté d’un système de communication intégré afin de rester en contact avec leur équipe en surface. Plusieurs méthodes de descente peuvent être pratiquées en fonction de la profondeur et de la durée de la mission.
« Dans le cas d’une plate-forme pétrolière, le premier plongeur descend sous l’eau directement depuis la plate-forme, et établit une ligne de descente, une corde d’à peine plus d’un centimètre qui remonte jusqu’au bateau », décrit Purvis.
Les plongeurs s’agrippent ensuite à la corde et se laissent tomber jusqu’au fond de l’eau.
« Même les meilleurs plongeurs sportifs peuvent se perdre complètement sous l’eau », poursuit Purvis. « Si l’on se trompe de direction et que l’on oublie la direction empruntée, on risque de ne plus savoir différencier la gauche de la droite, ou le haut du bas. »
La source d’oxygène des soudeurs-plongeurs n’est pas une bouteille de plongée classique ; elle ressemble davantage à une sorte de cordon ombilical. Un tuyau transfère du gaz respiratoire depuis la surface jusqu’au point de contrôle des plongeurs, un peu comme un astronaute qui reste attaché à son vaisseau lorsqu’il marche sur la Lune. Ils descendent avec des électrodes et des torches à la main, spécialement conçues pour les inspections et les réparations sous-marines.
Le simple fait de travailler sous l’eau présente de nombreux défis qui requièrent une certaine expertise. Comme pour toute plongée, l’augmentation de la pression de l’eau, si elle n’est pas gérée correctement, peut entraîner de graves problèmes physiologiques tels que la narcose à l’azote ou un accident de décompression.
La faible visibilité accentue ces difficultés, car les scaphandriers travaillent souvent dans des eaux troubles et peu lumineuses, et ont ainsi plus de difficultés à identifier les éventuels dangers et obstacles auxquels ils pourraient faire face. Lorsqu’ils soudent, certains plongeurs gardent même les yeux fermés pour rester calmes, la réparation ne peut ainsi s’effectuer que grâce à leurs sensations.
« Si l’eau est trouble, essayer de voir ne fait que gaspiller de l’énergie », explique Purvis. « La plupart du temps, il fait totalement noir, et le travail repose de toute façon sur le ressenti. »
L’électrocution représente un autre danger important, car les sources d'électricité peuvent envoyer des courants électriques dans les eaux environnantes. De plus, le soudage à des températures extrêmement élevées (5 500 °C et plus) provoque la séparation des molécules d’hydrogène et d’oxygène de l’eau, et si la proportion d’hydrogène atteint un niveau trop élevé par rapport à l’oxygène, des explosions plus ou moins importantes peuvent se produire.
Pour atténuer ces risques, les soudeurs s’appuient sur une formation approfondie, un équipement spécialisé, une communication constante avec les équipes qui restent à la surface, et des outils de soudage adaptés.
La peur fait malgré tout partie intégrante du processus, confie Purvis, qui a souvent effectué des plongées de plus de dix heures d’affilée dans le cadre de son travail, et qui a perdu une partie de son petit doigt lors d’une mission.
« La peur est naturelle. Si un plongeur vous dit qu’il n’a jamais eu peur, il vous ment. On doit lutter contre les courants pendant les missions, et la plupart des plongeurs perdent un ou deux doigts à cause d’une pièce qui leur a écrasé la main. »
Le soudage sous-marin devra certainement toujours être effectué par des humains, plutôt que par des machines ; selon les experts, ce travail est tout simplement trop complexe.
« C’est un savoir-faire », affirme Kevin Peters, soudeur sous-marin et directeur des services environnementaux chez Subsea Global Solutions. « Il faut vraiment s’y consacrer, avoir des compétences et de la pratique, de la même manière qu’un peintre ou un musicien doit s’exercer pendant 10 000 heures pour exceller. »
Le travail peut également varier en fonction des missions.
« La plupart des travaux de soudage sous-marins sont des missions de réparation et, dans la plupart des cas, si un robot était là, le processus devrait n’être que semi-automatique », explique Uwe Aschemeier, ingénieur en soudage primé. « Les réparations dans le domaine du soudage ne sont pas linéaires ou constantes, des humains sont nécessaires pour évaluer et concevoir chaque réparation. »
Les scaphandriers travaillent dans un certain nombre de secteurs, des compagnies pétrolières qui construisent des plates-formes offshore aux constructeurs de navires qui doivent effectuer des réparations sous-marines. Cette méthode s’est imposée comme une meilleure alternative au carénage des bateaux, qui nécessite de les sortir de l’eau, car elle permet d’économiser du temps et des ressources tout en garantissant des réparations efficaces. Particulièrement crucial dans les industries du pétrole et du gaz, le soudage sous-marin permet de maintenir l’infrastructure des grands navires, des réacteurs nucléaires, des pipelines et des plates-formes pétrolières offshore.
Pour limiter la menace du changement climatique, les entreprises du secteur de l’énergie doivent abandonner progressivement les combustibles fossiles ; certains scaphandriers ont donc trouvé du travail dans le secteur des énergies renouvelables.
Après avoir travaillé dans la soudure, Purvis s’est réorienté vers le secteur des panneaux solaires et des batteries.
« J’ai trois enfants et je voulais qu’ils me voient passer à l’industrie des énergies renouvelables », explique-t-il, « afin de ne pas seulement puiser dans la terre et dans les ressources disponibles de notre planète, mais d’utiliser des ressources naturelles pour produire de l’énergie. »

Au niveau national, l’alimentation représente 22 % de l’empreinte carbone de la France selon l’étude conjointe du Réseau Action Climat (RAC) et de la Société Française de Nutrition (SFN), parue le 20 février 2024. Intitulée « Comment concilier nutrition et climat ? », l'étude souhaite davantage prendre en compte les enjeux environnementaux dans le Programme National Nutrition Santé (PNNS).
Mis en place en France en 2001, le PNNS vise à améliorer la santé de l’ensemble de la population à travers des initiatives promouvant des habitudes alimentaires et des activités physiques bénéfiques pour la santé. On lui doit les célèbres recommandations « manger cinq fruits et légumes par jour », ou encore « évitez de manger trop gras, trop sucré et trop salé », mentions sanitaires obligatoirement apposées sur les publicités alimentaires.
En ce qui concerne la viande, le programme recommande de « privilégier la volaille et limiter les autres viandes (porc, bœuf, veau, mouton, agneau, abats) à 500 g par semaine » et de « limiter la charcuterie à 150 g par semaine. » Cela n’inclut pas la volaille, pour laquelle aucune limitation n’est préconisée.
La viande, si elle est consommée en bonne quantité et avec une alimentation variée et équilibrée, est « favorable à une bonne santé », rappelle Béatrice Morio, directrice de recherche à l’INRAE et vice-présidente de la SFN. « Elle apporte des nutriments indispensables au bon fonctionnement de l'organisme. Bien sûr, des protéines de bonne qualité, mais aussi des vitamines du groupe B (dont B12) et minéraux (dont fer et zinc). »
Pour autant, la viande, rouge particulièrement, n’est pas un aliment sans risques et une trop forte consommation peut entraîner une « augmentation du risque cardiovasculaire et métabolique (diabète) et de cancer (estomac et colorectal surtout) », précise l’experte. « Ce risque est observé pour des apports élevés, supérieurs à 500 g de viande rouge (comptée cuite) par semaine selon l'ANSES (2016) ».
L’étude conjointe relève que « les recommandations du PNNS ont été élaborées en prenant en compte les enjeux de nutrition et de santé humaine, mais pas les enjeux environnementaux. » Selon la synthèse, ces recommandations « présentent un écart significatif avec la littérature scientifique sur les régimes alimentaires durables, en particulier en ce qui concerne la consommation de viande ».
En effet, la quantité de viande consommée par habitant en France représente deux fois la valeur de la moyenne mondiale. Et cette consommation est en légère hausse depuis une dizaine d’années. Elle a progressé d’un peu plus de 2 % entre 2013 et 2022, toujours selon l’étude.
Ces chiffres entrent en contradiction avec les enquêtes déclaratives sur le sujet. En effet en 2023, 57 % des Français affirmaient avoir réduit leur consommation de viande au cours des trois dernières années, selon une enquête Toluna Harris interactive pour Réseau Action Climat. L’explication se trouve dans la modification des habitudes de consommation alimentaire. Si l’achat des pièces de viande des ménages pour la consommation effective est effectivement en diminution, celui-ci a été compensé par la consommation de viande en restauration hors domicile, dans les plats préparés ou encore dans les plats livrés à domicile.
« Le constat actuel est que nos sociétés occidentales, et surtout la France, consomment plus de viande qu'il n'est nécessaire », déclare Béatrice Morio. « 125g de viande par jour » (soit 875 g par semaine) pour être exact, selon la dernière enquête nationale sur les consommations alimentaires des français (INCA3). « Or, de nombreux scénarios et prospectives indiquent qu’une consommation de viande deux fois moins élevée pourrait contribuer à faciliter l’atteinte des objectifs climatiques et le respect des limites planétaires ».
Nicole Darmon, directrice de recherche honoraire à l’INRAE, membre de la SFN et experte en nutrition santé, explique : « Les travaux menés par la Société Française de Nutrition (SFN) et le Réseaux Action Climat (RAC) montrent qu'il est possible de maintenir un apport optimal en nutriments en diminuant de moitié la consommation de viande et en complétant les apports protéiques par des sources végétales (céréales, légumineuses, oléagineux) qui sont également vectrices de nutriments favorables à une bonne santé (fibres, vitamines (dont B9 et béta-carotène), minéraux (fer, magnésium, zinc et potassium) et polyphénols) ».
Le rapport indique ainsi que réduire de moitié notre consommation en viande conduirait à une réduction de l’impact carbone de l’alimentation comprise entre -20 % et -50 % selon le type de changements alimentaires associés à la réduction de la viande.
De fait, la viande est un aliment au très lourd bilan carbone. « Les études scientifiques montrent que les produits d’origine animale représentent la majeure partie de l’impact carbone de notre alimentation » explique Benoit Granier, Responsable Alimentation chez Réseau Action Climat. En France, la consommation de produits animaux représente 61 % de l’impact carbone de notre alimentation.
Le dernier rapport de la FAO, publié en 2013, estime que l’élevage de bétail dans le monde était responsable, en 2005, de 14,5 % des émissions de gaz à effet de serre d’origine humaine. Cette activité émet environ sept milliards de tonnes de CO2 par an, soit plus que les États-Unis et la France réunis.
« L’élevage est un contributeur important aux émissions de gaz à effet de serre, directement de par les émissions de méthane rejetées par les ruminants et de protoxyde d’azote issues des déjections animales, et indirectement par l’intermédiaire de la production de l’alimentation des animaux qui nécessite l’utilisation d’engrais azotés et participe fortement au changement d’affectation des terres et à la déforestation », poursuit-il.
L'étude incite donc le PNNS à mieux prendre en compte les enjeux environnementaux, comme le font déjà les programmes de recommandations alimentaires en Espagne, au Danemark ou aux Pays-Bas. « La plupart des autres pays européens, notamment ceux qui ont intégré les enjeux environnementaux dans leurs recommandations de consommation alimentaire, recommandent eux aussi de limiter la consommation de viande, mais indiquent des quantités maximales plus faibles », relate en ce Nicole Darmon.
Ainsi, selon les pays, les quantités maximales recommandées sont « de l’ordre de 300 à 630 grammes par semaine, et cette limitation inclut non seulement la charcuterie et les autres viandes transformées mais aussi souvent la volaille. » À titre d’exemple, les Pays-Bas recommandent un maximum de 500g par semaine toutes viandes confondues, l’Espagne 375g et le Danemark 350g. L’étude recommande quant à elle de ne pas dépasser les 450 g par semaine, toutes viandes confondues.
Toutefois attention, « remplacer la viande par des pâtes ou des chips réduirait aussi l’impact environnemental et le coût de l’alimentation, mais dégraderait considérablement sa qualité nutritionnelle. C’est donc vers une végétalisation diversifiée et colorée qu’il faut aller pour concilier nutrition, environnement et budget », conclut la spécialiste.
Le mode d’élevage pourrait être aussi davantage pris en compte. Ainsi, des bovins nourris au pâturage jouent un rôle favorable au maintien des prairies dont le rôle dans le stockage de carbone s’approche de celui des forêts, en plus de leur rôle important sur le maintien de la biodiversité.
La dernière déclinaison du PNNS, le PNNS 4 arrive à échéance fin 2023. L’étude conjointe du Réseau Action Climat et de la Société Française de Nutrition propose donc d’intégrer les enjeux environnementaux dans les recommandations alimentaires des prochaines versions du PNNS, et également de les inscrire dans le projet intitulé « Stratégie Nationale Alimentation Nutrition Climat » (SNANC), qui est en cours de préparation.
Non contente d’avoir été la plus grande philosophe de son Alexandrie natale à la fin du 4e et au début du 5e siècle de notre ère, Hypatie fut également l’une des plus éminentes penseuses de l’Antiquité tardive. À elles seules, ces deux prouesses appelaient une perpétuation de son nom à travers les âges, mais l’Histoire en décida autrement.
Si l’on se souvient d’Hypatie, c’est principalement pour l’assassinat terrible perpétré par une foule de chrétiens fanatiques dont elle fut la victime en 415. Des sources contemporaines racontent en détail sa mise à mort. Les auteurs chrétiens Socrate le Scolastique et Jean de Nikiou, ainsi que des auteurs païens tels que le philosophe néoplatonicien grec Damascios, offrent des descriptions concordantes de sa mort. On la tira hors de son char et on la conduisit de force au Césaréum, un sanctuaire transformé en église. Là, elle fut dépouillée de ses vêtements, écorchée et brutalement assassinée. Après avoir démembré son corps, la foule brûla ses restes.
Selon d’autres récits, la foule s’en serait pris à elle alors qu’elle donnait un cours puis, après l’avoir conduite à l’église, l’aurait traînée dans les rues. On dit aussi que Cyrille, patriarche (archevêque) d’Alexandrie, aurait édifié un complot en vue de son assassinat, puis ordonné la mise à exécution de celui-ci. Quelle que soit la version la plus exacte, on croit depuis longtemps déjà qu’elle fut assassinée par une foule de chrétiens fanatiques en raison de ses croyances philosophiques ; elle avait commis l’affront de ne pas soutenir le christianisme dans un monde ou chrétiens et païens avaient maille à partir. Mais l’histoire ne s’arrête pas là.
Au temps de la naissance d’Hypatie, vers l’an 360 de notre ère, l’important centre culturel et intellectuel qu’était son Alexandrie natale déclinait. Fondée par Alexandre le Grand en 331 avant notre ère, cette grande cité abritait un célèbre phare, qui était l’une des Sept Merveilles du monde antique, et le Mouseîon, où se trouvait la non moins célèbre bibliothèque de la ville, qui aurait servi à la formation des meilleurs écrivains, médecins, scientifiques et philosophes du monde antique.
Après avoir été conquise et partiellement brûlée par Jules César en l’an 48 avant notre ère, Alexandrie entama un lent déclin. En l’an 364 de notre ère, l’Empire romain se scinda et Alexandrie demeura dans sa partie orientale, dont la capitale était Constantinople (actuelle Istanbul). Autour de cette époque, des conflits éclatèrent entre les différentes obédiences chrétiennes de la ville. Ainsi que le remarqua un auteur antique, aucun peuple n’aimait plus se battre que celui d’Alexandrie. En l’an 380, l’empereur Théodose Ier fit du christianisme la religion officielle de l’Empire romain, Alexandrie y compris, et ordonna que l’on punisse les mécréants. Les tensions entre chrétiens et non-chrétiens s’exacerbèrent.
Dans ce contexte de luttes religieuses et politiques, Hypatie reçut une excellente éducation sous l’égide de son père Théon, mathématicien et astronome réputé qui enseignait au Mouseîon. Il lui fit découvrir une vaste gamme de sujets intéressant les mathématiques, l’astronomie, la philosophie et la littérature. Assez tôt, Hypatie fit preuve de capacités intellectuelles exceptionnelles et d’une passion pour l’apprentissage. Elle produisit des commentaires détaillés sur les grandes œuvres des mathématiques et de l’astronomie qui avaient été produites à Alexandrie des siècles auparavant, au temps des Ptolémée (305 av. J.-C. à 30 ap. J.-C.).
Cependant, ce n’est pas le talent d’Hypatie pour les mathématiques et l’astronomie, ni même ses inventions, qui influencèrent le plus sa trajectoire, mais son adhésion à une certaine école de pensée : le néoplatonisme. Cette philosophie, qui réinterprète les idées de Platon, célèbre philosophe de la Grèce antique, émergea au 3e siècle de notre ère. Mélange de spiritualité et de science, elle applique les mathématiques et l’astronomie à la philosophie afin de comprendre l’Univers et la place que l’être humain y tient. Ces disciplines scientifiques étaient alors considérées comme autant de chemin vers l’Un, l’être suprême duquel toute chose émanerait. Bien que la philosophie d’Hypatie fût considérée comme hérétique, les chrétiens identifiaient l’Un à leur Dieu et, de ce fait, païens comme chrétiens étaient susceptibles d’adhérer à ce cadre philosophique.
Enseignante à l’École néoplatonicienne de philosophie, Hypatie attira lors de ses leçons un large public composé de païens autant que de chrétiens. Il ne semble pas qu’elle ait été une païenne fervente, ni qu’elle ait pratiqué la théurgie, rite mêlant magie et oracles en lequel de nombreux néoplatoniciens voyaient un autre chemin vers l’Un. Tandis qu’autour d’elle chrétiens et païens prenaient part à des affrontements qui déchiraient la ville d’Alexandrie, elle maintint, semble-t-il, une position neutre.
Hypatie se tint probablement à distance des événements qui, en 391, culminèrent dans la destruction du temple antique du Sérapéum d’Alexandrie par des chrétiens. D’autres intellectuels païens prirent une part active dans la défense de ce grand temple dédié au dieu Sérapis et se vantèrent même d’avoir tué des chrétiens.
Ainsi l’on s’aperçoit que l’hypothèse traditionnelle suivant laquelle la mort violente d’Hypatie aurait été le fruit d’un conflit idéologique entre païens et chrétiens n’est pas exhaustive. Une autre approche a davantage de sens.
Une chose claire ressort en ce qui concerne l’assassinat d’Hypatie. L’acte fut ritualisé, une caractéristique que partagent la mort violente de deux patriarches alexandrins : le cruel évêque des ariens Georges de Cappadoce, qui fut tué en 361, et Protérius, qui fut tué en 457.
Bien que les circonstances entourant la mort de ces évêques diffèrent de celles de la mort d’Hypatie, les trois assassinats suivent des schémas similaires. Les cadavres des patriarches furent, à l’instar de celui d’Hypatie, exhibés par leurs assassins sur la Voie canopique, principale artère alexandrine. Les corps des victimes furent démembrés et des parties de leurs dépouilles furent transférés vers chacun des quartiers de la ville pour y être incinérés. Il est intéressant de remarquer qu’en 391, après l’attaque du Sérapéum, la statue du dieu gréco-égyptien Séparis fut elle aussi soumise à la même violence ritualisée.
Vue ainsi, la mort d’Hypatie pourrait être interprétée comme un assassinat plutôt que comme un acte spontané perpétré par une foule assoiffée de sang. Il est possible que la philosophe ait servi de pion dans une manœuvre politique entreprise alors. D’ailleurs, un affrontement tout à fait caractéristique semble correspondre à cela. En effet, Hypatie s’était trouvée impliquée dans une confrontation entre deux hommes, tous deux chrétiens : Cyrille, le patriarche d’Alexandrie, et Oreste, gouverneur romain d’Alexandrie.
À cette époque, Cyrille exerçait son pouvoir politique de manière implacable afin d’éradiquer l’influence païenne à Alexandrie. Il n’hésitait pas à recourir à la violence pour parvenir à ses fins. Il prit également part à l’expulsion des Juifs d’Alexandrie à la suite des attaques que ces derniers perpétrèrent contre des chrétiens.
Là intervient le préfet romain Oreste qui, dans le cadre des tentatives de l’administration impériale de préserver la stabilité d’Alexandrie, dut compter sur le soutien de l’aristocratie municipale, qui vénérait en majorité des dieux païens. Ce dernier dut également éviter de susciter une réaction d’opposition de la part des Juifs tout en engrangeant le soutien des chrétiens qui s’opposaient à Cyrille et à ses méthodes violentes. Oreste, à l’inverse de Cyrille, dut en appeler à un groupe divers de personnes.
Oreste se tourna naturellement vers son amie Hypatie. Celle-ci faisait figure d’intermédiaire idoine de par son statut de philosophe et parce qu’elle s’était gardée de défendre activement le polythéisme. Elle était bien vue de ceux qui, au sein de l’élite alexandrine, n’étaient ni des agitateurs œuvrant au profit d’un camp ou de l’autre, ni des partisans de la violence. Un autre aspect distinguait Hypatie : au fil des années, elle avait cultivé un réseau. Parmi ses fréquentations figuraient d’anciens étudiants officiant dans de puissants cercles chrétiens, à la fois à Constantinople (siège de l’Empire romain) et à Alexandrie. Cyrille vit ainsi en Hypatie une menace potentielle à sa mainmise sur les chrétiens de la ville.
Pour neutraliser Hypatie, il semble que Cyrille ait organisé une campagne de diffamation l’accusant de pratiquer la magie noire et la décrivant comme une dangereuse sorcière se servant de sorts pour attirer le public à ses leçons. On prétendit qu’elle avait ensorcelé Oreste pour qu’il n’aille pas à la messe et accueille des non-chrétiens chez lui. Socrate le Scolastique remarque ceci : « Parce qu’elle s’entretenait fréquemment avec Oreste, la populace chrétienne la calomnia en soutenant que son influence empêchait ce dernier de se réconcilier avec Cyrille ». Tous ces clichés, qui furent répétés à travers les époques pour discréditer les femmes qui occupent des places autres que celles, traditionnelles, de femme et de mère, visaient à présenter Hypatie comme une dangereuse ennemie publique.
Cyrille ne pouvait commettre lui-même l’assassinat, et il n’avait d’ailleurs pas besoin de le faire. Il pouvait à la place compter sur ses parabalanis. À l’origine, ce groupe de chrétiens laïques menait des œuvres caritatives et prenait soin des personnes les plus nécessiteuses de la ville. Mais lorsque Cyrille arriva au pouvoir, les parabalanis étaient devenus une sorte de milice armée au service du patriarche. Bien qu’il n’existe pas de preuve que Cyrille ait ordonné l’assassinat d’Hypatie, tout indique qu’il avait beaucoup à gagner à la voir disparaître et que les parabalanis s’en chargèrent pour lui.
Son assassinat mit fin à la menace qu’elle représentait pour Cyrille de par son soutien à la politique de tolérance d’Oreste. Sa mort fut le point de rupture entre l’autorité religieuse incarnée par le patriarche Cyrille et l’autorité civile incarnée par le préfet Oreste. Ce fut ce premier qui triompha.
Toutefois, la mort d’Hypatie ne fut pas une défaite pour les païens. Chrétiens et païens continuèrent à coexister à Alexandrie durant plus d’un siècle. Le néoplatonisme prospéra jusqu’à la conquête arabe de l’Égypte au 7e siècle et compta parmi ses adhérents des chrétiens aussi bien que des païens. Au 6e siècle, le directeur de l’école était un païen, Ammonios, tandis que son adjoint et éditeur de ses œuvres était un chrétien, Jean Philopon. Après l’assassinat d’Hypatie, on n’entendit plus parler d’Oreste. Bien que les chefs chrétiens n’aient pas éradiqué la philosophie païenne de la ville, ils réprimèrent sévèrement les autorités séculières.
L’histoire d’Hypatie perdura. Son caractère et son intellect furent même reconnus par des auteurs chrétiens hostiles. Au 18e siècle, Voltaire la prit en exemple pour condamner une Église excessivement zélée. L’homme d’Église anglais Charles Kingsley composa un roman qui porte son nom. Elle est aussi la protagoniste du péplum espagnol Agora, sorti en 2009, dont l’intrigue fictionnelle la voit sauver la bibliothèque d’Alexandrie des fanatiques chrétiens. Son endurance au sein de cette société patriarcale en fait une héroïne féministe de nos jours encore, et elle mérite bien plus de reconnaissance dans l’Histoire que la sensation que fit son horrible assassinat.

La plupart des orques tendent à rester près des côtes, qu’il s’agisse des orques de l’Antarctique, qui créent de grosses vagues pour faire tomber les phoques de leur banquise, ou des deux orques vivant près de Cape Town, qui extraient le foie de leurs proies. Or, des scientifiques ont découvert ce qui pourrait être une toute nouvelle population d’orques : des animaux qui sillonnent la haute mer et se nourrissent de baleines et d’autres proies de grande taille.
Selon une récente étude parue dans la revue Aquatic Mammals, ces orques vivant en haute mer auraient été repérées à plusieurs endroits au large de l’Oregon et de la Californie, souvent bien au-delà du plateau continental, où le plancher océanique peut descendre jusqu’à 4 500 mètres de profondeur.
« Il n’y a pas eu de véritables études sur les orques en haute mer, du moins dans le Pacifique Nord », explique le responsable de l’étude Josh McInnes, doctorant à l’Institut des océans et des pêches de l’Université de Colombie-Britannique.
« Nous avons été très étonnés de découvrir ces animaux en pleine mer, qui diffèrent par ailleurs grandement des autres écotypes connus. »
Il existe trois écotypes d’orques du Pacifique : les résidentes, qui vivent près des côtes et se nourrissent de saumon et d’autres poissons, les hauturières, qui vivent plus au large et se nourrissent également de poissons, et les transientes, également appelées Bigg’s, que nous croyions être les seules orques à se nourrir de mammifères.
Les scientifiques n’ont pas pu établir de correspondances entre les 49 orques à l’étude et les orques déjà connues et identifiées à l’aide de photos et de descriptions de leurs nageoires dorsales et de leurs taches en forme de selle, ce motif gris ou blanc situé à califourchon derrière leur nageoire dorsale.
Cela signifie que ces orques constituent soit un sous-groupe de l’écotype transient, soit une population distincte, explique McInnes, qui est également chercheur associé à la Pacific Wildlife Foundation.
L’équipe a également pu différencier la population dite océanique des autres orques connues grâce à leurs cicatrices ou aux traces de morsures d’un requin parasite appelé squalelet féroce, qui ne vit que dans les profondeurs de l’océan et laisse des trous béants dans la chair de ses victimes.
Au-delà des variations propres à chaque individu, les orques océaniques ne ressemblent pas aux autres écotypes connus, comme peuvent en témoigner leur grande tache en forme de selle grise ou, à l’inverse, leur absence de tache de selle.
« On ne trouve pas énormément de grands prédateurs en haute mer (que l’on décrit souvent comme un gigantesque désert), c’est pourquoi nous ne nous attendions pas à y trouver autant d’animaux différents. Nous sommes impatients de poursuivre nos recherches », explique McInnes.
« Pour l’instant, nous ne savons pas ce que font ces orques en haute mer. C’est ce que nous aimerions étudier par la suite. »
Nos connaissances sur les orques vivant en haute mer sont limitées, car il est rare de croiser ces animaux à l’aire de répartition très étendue depuis un bateau.
Pourtant, le récent article, qui mêle littérature scientifique et nouvelles observations, recense neuf cas lors desquels des chercheurs spécialisés dans les mammifères marins, des pêcheurs et des touristes ont indiqué avoir observé des orques dans le nord de l’océan Pacifique entre 1997 et 2021.
Le premier évènement, relaté par des chercheurs, fait mention d’un grand pod d’orques qui aurait attaqué un groupe de neuf cachalots femelles adultes, et aurait réussi à isoler l’une d’entre elles pour ensuite la tuer. D’autres pods auraient également chassé et mangé un éléphant de mer, un cachalot pygmée, un dauphin de Risso et une tortue luth.
Grâce aux rapports détaillés de chaque rencontre, les chercheurs de la nouvelle étude ont relevé des emplacements géoréférencés, déterminé la profondeur de l’eau et comparé des photos dans des bases de données, et, selon leurs observations, les 49 orques observées pourraient constituer un nouvel écotype.
Cette nouvelle population pourrait s'être formée au fur et à mesure que les proies l'attiraient loin du rivage.
« Les orques mangeuses de mammifères se portent bien. Leur nombre est en augmentation, car les populations de phoques et de baleines se sont reconstituées depuis que leur chasse est devenue illégale », explique Robert Pitman, écologiste marin à l’Institut des mammifères marins de l’Université d’État de l’Oregon, qui n’a pas participé à l’étude.
Si les proies sont globalement moins nombreuses en eaux profondes, les orques pourraient préférer cet habitat au rivage, où elle se retrouveraient en compétition avec les grandes populations d’orques résidentes, ajoute-t-il.
McInnes et ses collègues espèrent que cette étude incitera les scientifiques à étudier la nouvelle population d’orques par le biais d’un échantillonnage génétique, d’un marquage par satellite, d’un suivi acoustique, d’une identification photographique plus poussée et d’observations supplémentaires sur le terrain.
Le changement climatique affecte certaines populations d’orques, comme celles de l’Antarctique qui dépendent des phoques vivants sur une banquise qui fond à vue d’œil. Sur la côte ouest des États-Unis, le déclin des populations de saumons a réduit la population d’orques vivant au large de Puget Sound, dans l’État de Washington.
À l’échelle planétaire, cependant, l’espèce prospère et entre de plus en plus en contact avec les habitants des zones côtières. Les orques qui ont heurté et même coulé des bateaux au large de l’Espagne ont fait la une des journaux en 2023, et ont amené certaines personnes à soutenir les animaux dans leur prétendue quête de vengeance face à la domination humaine.
« Les orques sont probablement les vertébrés les plus répandus sur la planète. Elles sont partout », explique Pitman.
Considérant les nombreuses croisières touristiques proposées dans le monde entier, il encourage tout le monde à, au moins une fois dans sa vie, aller observer des orques, dont les mâles peuvent atteindre 8 mètres de long.
« Il s’agit actuellement du plus grand super prédateur de la planète. Il n’y a plus rien eu de tel depuis les dinosaures. »

Depuis trente ans, Stéphen Rostain arpente la jungle humide de l’Équateur. À force d'investigation, il a fini par comprendre qu’un peuple important avait un jour habité ce coin d’Amazonie. Dans la vallée de l’Upano, au pied de la cordillère des Andes, il a trouvé ce qui s’apparente à une grande cité antique. Ça et là, des plateformes de terre, monticules de 2 à 3 mètres de haut, s’organisent autour d’un axe rectiligne central et creusé - « les Champs-Élysées locaux » selon les mots de l’archéologue.
Perchées sur ces promontoires, des habitations étaient construites en bois. On les devine aujourd’hui grâce aux trous que les poteaux ont laissés dans le sol. Juste en bas de ces monticules, l’archéologue a découvert des champs où l’on cultivait du maïs, des haricots et du cacao voilà 2 500 ans, entre 500 avant J.-C. et 600 après J.-C.
« C’est une cité-jardin, comme Angkor Wat, au Cambodge ou les sites mayas. Les habitants cultivaient sans doute en bas de chez eux, et s’aidaient des canaux qu’ils avaient creusés dans le sol pour drainer l’eau de cette région humide. Nous avons aussi retrouvé des grains de maïs à l’intérieur de jarres de cette époque. Ils buvaient un breuvage à base de maïs légèrement fermenté. Une sorte de bière épaisse et nutritive, peu alcoolisée (deux degrés d’alcool) que l’on trouve chez la plupart des populations autochtones encore aujourd’hui, ce qui étaye cette hypothèse » indique le chercheur.
Autre constat, sur le terrain : certains des grands axes poursuivent leurs courses dans l’épaisse végétation. Mais impossible de les suivre. Pendant plusieurs décennies, l’archéologue s’est heurté à cette énigme. Où mènent ces routes ?
Tout a changé en 2021. À bord d’un petit avion équipé de la technologie Lidar – un laser capable d’afficher les moindres reliefs du sol – une équipe a parcouru près de 600 km² dans cette région. Quand il a finalement découvert les images réalisées durant ce survol, l’archéologue était stupéfait. « J’ai pris conscience du gigantisme de ce qui avait été construit ». Sur le terrain, il avait vu une seule grande cité. Là, depuis les airs, ce sont cinq « villes » et dix « villages » qui se dévoilaient, un peu sur le même modèle que la première cité découverte. Ces bourgs apparaissent connectés par des routes « parfaitement droites ». L’archéologue constate aussi que les grands axes continuent de filer au-delà des 600 km² scannés par le laser.
Cette mystérieuse civilisation se serait étendue sur près de 1000 km² (la taille du Val d’Oise). Voilà qui balaie, s’il fallait encore le faire, la croyance d’une forêt amazonienne vierge de toute habitation, peuplée seulement par une poignée de chasseurs-cueilleurs. Ces découvertes ont été publiées en début d’année dans la revue Science. « Au sein de la quinzaine de bourgs, on recense en tout près de 6500 plateformes » poursuit Stéphen Rostain. Difficile de savoir pourtant combien d’habitants ont vraiment vécu là, pendant plus de mille ans, dans ces cités-jardins non loin de la rivière Upano. Plusieurs milliers de personnes au moins, estime Stéphen Rostain. Pour préciser ce chiffre, lui et son équipe s’attellent à calculer la productivité des champs.
Une chose est sûre, néanmoins. Il s'agissait d'une société complexe, sûrement hiérarchisée, qui s’est épanouie au pied de la cordillère des Andes, à l’ouest de l’Équateur actuel. En témoignent ces monticules d’une centaine de mètres de large, présents dans chacune des villes et chacun des villages, bien plus importants que les autres plateformes. « Ce sont des œuvres publiques, collectives, sans doute édifiées pour des réunions. Des constructions en bois existaient au sommet, mais elles ont disparu » relate Stéphen Rostain.
Ces grandes réalisations, en plus des routes parfaitement rectilignes, supposent l’existence de géomètres. Voilà 2500 ans, ces mathématiciens enchaînaient les visées pour mener à bien les constructions. « Chacun son domaine de spécialisation. Certains étaient paysans, d’autres pêcheurs, d’autres encore prêtres ou chamans. Des marchands se rendaient à l’extérieur des cités pour échanger avec les autres, y compris avec d’autres peuples » explique l’archéologue.
Une civilisation d’ampleur, donc, organisée, complexe… Pourquoi est-elle restée si longtemps dans l’ombre ? Les recherches dans la forêt amazonienne sur les ancêtres des Amérindiens ont longtemps suscité peu d’intérêt, en comparaison de celles menées en Mésoamérique, sur les Mayas ou les Aztèques. Ces derniers ont laissé des bâtiments en pierre, au contraire des constructions en bois de cette civilisation inconnue, qui ont disparu. Stéphen Rostain ajoute une raison à cette relative indifférence. « Lors de la colonisation espagnole, débutée vers la fin du 16e siècle, les virus exogènes ont provoqué une véritable hécatombe. De nombreuses sociétés autochtones ont disparu avant même que l’homme blanc n’ait pu les voir. Quand les premiers Européens ont exploré la forêt amazonienne, elle était déjà quasiment vidée de ses habitants. On a tendance à oublier cette pandémie. Et on pense aisément que les Amérindiens d’aujourd’hui ressemblent à ceux d’autrefois, en ignorant complètement la diversité des modes de vie possibles dans la forêt avant la colonisation ».
Perchés sur leurs plateformes, ces mystérieux habitants ont peuplé ce coin de forêt amazonienne pendant plus de 1000 ans avant de disparaître. « Leur fin semble assez brusque. J’ai d’abord pensé à une mega-éruption volcanique, car ils étaient installés au pied d’un volcan très actif. Mais les dates ne correspondent pas. Est-ce un changement climatique, un phénomène El Niño persistant qui aurait bouleversé cette société très dépendante de son agriculture ? Une civilisation qui a tout simplement implosée ? » s’interroge Stéphen Rostain, toujours au travail. L’archéologue compte bien continuer d’écrire l’histoire méconnue de la forêt amazonienne avant la colonisation.

The Ukraine war could be poised to take a dramatic new turn
The terrorist operation in Moscow’s Crocus City Hall centre, which killed 143 people and injured hundreds of others, mostly concertgoers, was clearly carried out by a group that had been given serious military training. It could mark a paradigm shift in the Ukraine war presaging a strategic escalation and NATO’s official entry into the war.
Two weeks earlier, the US embassy in Moscow had warned its citizens that extremists were planning imminent attacks on large gatherings, including concerts, in the Russian capital, and warned them to stay away. That foreknowledge of the planning and execution of the operation raised suspicions about a degree of complicity. Washington’s denunciation of the atrocity, and swift disavowal of involvement, cannot be taken at face value.
When the initial warning was made, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova remarked that if the US had information about terrorist actions of such enormity, it should have shared it with Russia. That was the first official hint from Moscow of suspected American complicity.
Two years into the Ukraine war, the US has begun to sense defeat. Russia has made a succession of gains, taking control of the Donbas region and annexing it after holding referendums.
Large-scale US and NATO intervention — on the material, military, and intelligence fronts — failed to achieve any major success. Russia did not collapse under the weight of draconian sanctions. Its economy remains strong. The predicted colour revolution never happened, nor the anticipated military coup to depose Putin.
The opposite occurred, with the Russian president getting re-elected with an 87% majority on a 74% turnout.
The resort to terrorist attacks in Moscow could be a mark of the US’ frustration and a response aimed at expanding the scope of the war. But that would not only be a losing bet. It could bring the prospect of a catastrophic nuclear war closer.
Putin announced on Saturday night that the eleven people involved in the attack, including four direct participants, had been apprehended.
Meanwhile, the editor-in-chief of the Russia Today broadcast network, Margarita Simonyan, published video excerpts of the interrogation of one of the suspects. He identified himself as Feredoun Shamsedin, born in 1988, who arrived in Russia from Turkey on 4 March. He said he had been recruited via Telegram after following an extremist preacher, by someone who offered him 5 million roubles ($5,000) to conduct a mass killing in Moscow. Half of the money was transferred to him in advance.
I met Ms. Simonyan when I visited Moscow recently. She was constantly accompanied by a security detail because she had been subjected to death threats. She said she believed the Crocus atrocity was masterminded by the Ukrainian regime, rather than by ISIS as the US media were claiming. Putin’s subsequent assertion that the perpetrators were arrested while heading towards the Ukrainian border reinforced that accusation.
Russia’s fingers of blame pointed at Ukraine were a portent of fierce retaliation. It seems to have already begun. Former president and current deputy national security chief Dmitri Medvedev warned immediately after the massacre that Russia would hunt down any Ukrainian leaders proven to have been involved.
Reading between the lines, that may imply that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky could be top of the target list.
Two days before the Crocus attack, Putin threatened Ukraine with ”war’—abandoning the term special military operation’ — in response to French President Emanual Macron’s hint that NATO could send 90,000 fully equipped troops to Ukraine. Under Russian military doctrine, a declaration of war authorises the use of all available means, including nuclear weapons.
The US administration, disoriented and defeated in Ukraine and (so far) the Middle East, is fueling this escalation against Russia. It is the primary beneficiary of the Crocus attack. Not just to destabilise Russia by stoking ethnic tensions, but also to divert international attention away from its collusion in Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza and the failure of its cynical attempt at the UN Security Council to sustain it under the guise of favouring (but not actually calling for) a cease-fire.
Putin won’t forgive this assault on his capital while it was celebrating the renewal of his presidential term. He is likely to make the US and Ukraine pay a high price. And that, I have been reliably informed, will extend to our Arab world.

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.
The President of the Republic of Belarus expressed his heartfelt condolences on the monstrous terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall, conveyed words of sympathy and support to the victims’ families and wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured, emphasising that the people of Belarus stand together with the people of Russia in this time of sorrow.
Alexander Lukashenko offered any assistance that may be needed, and expressed his confidence that the organisers and perpetrators of this heinous crime will face inevitable punishment.
For his part, Vladimir Putin informed his counterpart about the detention of the terrorists directly involved in the attack, as well as about the ongoing investigation.
Both leaders expressed mutual readiness to continue close cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

Both Sides reaffirmed their intention to continue close cooperation to counter terrorism.
On March 23, President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a telephone conversation.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan offered his deep and heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims of the heinous terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall. He noted that the Republic of Türkiye stands with the people of Russia in this dark hour.
Vladimir Putin emphasised that Russia appreciates the support of the Turkish people and informed his Turkish counterpart on the status of the investigation into the terrorist attack.
During the conversation, the Turkish Leader stressed the urgent need for closer bilateral cooperation in the fight against the terrorist threat.
President Putin expressed gratitude for the condolences and supported the idea of stepping up cooperation in countering terrorism.
On March 23, President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of the Syrian Arab Republic Bashar al-Assad held a telephone conversation.
The President of Syria strongly condemned the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall, stressing that Syrian citizens share the pain and grief of the Russian people. He wished fortitude to the victims’ families and friends and a speedy recovery to the injured.
Vladimir Putin and Bashar al-Assad discussed the ongoing crisis in the Middle East and the current situation in Syria, which is directly facing the terrorist threat.
The Leaders agreed to intensify contacts both in addressing counterterrorism and in all other areas of bilateral cooperation.

President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon telephoned Vladimir Putin to express deep condolences and solidarity with the Russian people over the death of innocent civilians in the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall. The President of Tajikistan emphasised that there was no nor could not be any justification for that crime.
During the conversation, Vladimir Putin and Emomali Rahmon noted that the security services of Russia and Tajikistan were working closely together to counter terrorism and that they would build up their cooperation.

Ilham Aliyev stressed that the people of Azerbaijan stand together with the Russian people on this day of national mourning and expressed confidence that the severe punishment of the criminals and those who masterminded that crime was unavoidable.
Vladimir Putin thanked the President of Azerbaijan for his words of support and expressed readiness to further strengthen practical interaction in the spirit of strategic partnership and alliance between Russia and Azerbaijan.

I set out below the essence for your consideration.
The context for my remarks was a lengthy article published online this morning by The Financial Times under the title “Moscow seeks to blame Kyiv for Isis concert hall attack.” The wording “seeks to blame” tells you clearly that the editorial stance of the newspaper is to ridicule what were so far just hints at Ukrainian responsibility for the atrocity in Vladimir Putin’s address to the nation yesterday. The most important hint was with respect to the ‘window’ opened by the Ukrainian authorities for the fleeing gunmen to escape across the border. This is treated by the FT as Russian propaganda: “…Putin, Russian officials and the FSB security service repeatedly claimed the assailants were intercepted while en route to Ukraine.”
Instead, citing “US and other western countries,” the FT insists that the Ukrainians had nothing to do with the massacre. After all, ISIS itself has publicly claimed responsibility. To be more precise, the culprits were “an Afghan-based affiliate called Isis-Khorasan, or Isis-K.”
The FT reasons that Russia is viewed with the same hatred by ISIS as are Western states. The Afghan affiliate, which was little known till now, had every reason to carry out the spectacular attack to draw attention to itself and thereby to greatly enhance its recruitment prospects.
Per the FT, this same Isis-K has attempted terrorist attacks in Western Europe in the recent past but was thwarted each time. Russia proved to be an easier target, hence the successful operation at the Crocus City Hall auditorium.
All of this argumentation by The Financial Times, or rather by the fast talkers in Washington who fed the FT its lines to disseminate to its respectable audience, all of this argumentation has a fatal flaw, namely the assumption that there is an either/or here: either the Ukrainians did it, or the Isis-K did it.
However, upon inspection it is fairly obvious that both sets of actors, Isis-K and the Ukrainian military intelligence operatives, worked cooperatively. Only in this way could a group of Tajik gunmen with poor knowledge of Russian, as we now know from the tapes of their initial interrogation posted on Russian television, and with still less knowledge of the target site have pulled off the attack and made their way out of Moscow by car, nearly reaching the Ukrainian border in the Russian province of Bryansk to the west.
Clearly it was Ukrainian intelligence operatives who were the enablers. They speak native Russian. The Russian-Ukrainian border is porous and these operatives have established themselves within Russia in considerable numbers. They would have had ample opportunity to prepare the cache of automatic rifles and incendiary devices, to inspect the venue for attack, to learn where the security staff had their office, to find escape routes and to do all of the other preparatory and support work necessary for success.
So much for the benefit to the Isis-K from working hand in hand with the Ukrainians. But what were the benefits to Kiev from this cooperation? The answer is that this arrangement could deflect blame entirely away from Kiev and onto a credible international terrorist organization, as the US tells us, so that gullible readers of the FT and of other major Western media carrying the story will believe that Putin is lying.
I will not mince words: this cynical and duplicitous plot has on it the fingerprints of National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, who made his name in infamy in the Nord Stream II bombings, per Sy Hersh, or by the CIA, acting in consort with Sullivan. We already know from recent New York Times exposes that the CIA has been deeply embedded in Ukraine’s terrorist activities.
Sullivan has taken the relay baton from Victoria Nuland and is now the leading promoter of WWIII in the Biden Administration. It was he who a week ago had to be squelched by Secretary of State Blinken when he sought to describe Vladimir Putin’s electoral victory as illegitimate. The final language of the U.S. position on the elections placed before Biden to read was that Putin is Russia’s president. But that came only after a big internal debate which Sullivan lost. The Crocus City Hall massacre suggests that Sullivan has not yet gotten the message that the outbreak of WWIII will not help Biden’s electoral chances.

Da dieses Gericht am besten warm serviert wird, möchte ich Ihnen im Folgenden die Essenz darlegen.
Anlass für meine Bemerkungen war ein längerer Artikel, der heute Morgen von der Financial Times unter dem Titel “Moscow seeks to blame Kyiv for Isis concert hall attack” (“Moskau will Kiew für Isis-Anschlag auf Konzertsaal verantwortlich machen”) online veröffentlicht wurde. Die Formulierung “versucht, Kiew die Schuld zu geben” macht deutlich, dass die Zeitung die Andeutungen über die ukrainische Verantwortung für die Gräueltat in der gestrigen Rede von Wladimir Putin an die Nation ins Lächerliche ziehen will. Der wichtigste Hinweis bezog sich auf das “Fenster”, das die ukrainischen Behörden den fliehenden Bewaffneten geöffnet hatten, um über die Grenze zu entkommen. Dies wird von der FT als russische Propaganda behandelt: “…Putin, russische Beamte und der Sicherheitsdienst FSB behaupteten wiederholt, die Angreifer seien auf dem Weg in die Ukraine abgefangen worden.”
Stattdessen beharrt die FT unter Berufung auf “die USA und andere westliche Länder” darauf, dass die Ukrainer nichts mit dem Massaker zu tun hatten. Immerhin habe ISIS selbst öffentlich die Verantwortung übernommen. Genauer gesagt handele es sich bei den Tätern um “eine in Afghanistan ansässige Tochtergesellschaft namens Isis-Khorasan, oder Isis-K”.
Die FT begründet dies damit, dass Russland von ISIS mit dem gleichen Hass betrachtet werde wie westliche Staaten. Die afghanische Tochtergesellschaft, die bisher kaum bekannt sei, hätte allen Grund, den spektakulären Anschlag zu verüben, um auf sich aufmerksam zu machen und damit ihre Rekrutierungsaussichten erheblich zu verbessern.
Laut FT habe dieselbe Isis-K in der jüngeren Vergangenheit versucht, Terroranschläge in Westeuropa zu verüben, was aber jedes Mal vereitelt worden sei. Russland habe sich als leichteres Ziel erwiesen, daher die erfolgreiche Operation im Konzertsaal des Krokus-Konferenzzentrums.
All diese Argumentation der Financial Times, oder besser gesagt, der Schnellredner in Washington, die die FT mit ihren Zeilen gefüttert haben, um sie an ihr respektables Publikum zu verbreiten, all diese Argumentation hat einen fatalen Fehler, nämlich die Annahme, dass es hier ein Entweder-Oder gibt: Entweder waren es die Ukrainer, oder Isis-K war es.
Bei näherer Betrachtung ist es jedoch ziemlich offensichtlich, dass beide Gruppen von Akteuren, Isis-K und der ukrainische Militärgeheimdienst, zusammengearbeitet haben. Nur so konnte eine Gruppe tadschikischer Bewaffneter mit geringen Russischkenntnissen, wie wir jetzt aus den im russischen Fernsehen veröffentlichten Aufzeichnungen ihres ersten Verhörs wissen, und mit noch weniger Kenntnissen über den Anschlagsort den Anschlag verüben und sich mit dem Auto aus Moskau hinausbewegen, um fast die ukrainische Grenze in der russischen Provinz Brjansk im Westen zu erreichen.
Es waren eindeutig ukrainische Geheimdienstmitarbeiter, die dies ermöglicht haben. Sie sprechen Russisch als Muttersprache. Die russisch-ukrainische Grenze ist durchlässig, und diese Agenten haben sich in großer Zahl in Russland niedergelassen. Sie hätten reichlich Gelegenheit gehabt, den Vorrat an automatischen Gewehren und Brandsätzen vorzubereiten, den Anschlagsort zu inspizieren, herauszufinden, wo das Sicherheitspersonal sein Büro hat, Fluchtwege zu finden und all die anderen Vorbereitungs- und Unterstützungsarbeiten zu erledigen, die für einen Erfolg notwendig sind.
So viel zu den Vorteilen, die Isis-K aus der Zusammenarbeit mit den Ukrainern gezogen hat. Aber welchen Nutzen hatte Kiew von dieser Zusammenarbeit? Die Antwort ist, dass diese Vereinbarung die Schuld von Kiew ablenken und einer glaubwürdigen internationalen Terrororganisation zuschieben könnte, wie uns die USA erzählen, so dass leichtgläubige Leser der FT und anderer großer westlicher Medien, die die Geschichte verbreiten, glauben werden, dass Putin lügt.
Ich nehme kein Blatt vor den Mund: Dieses zynische und verlogene Komplott trägt die Fingerabdrücke des Nationalen Sicherheitsberaters Jake Sullivan, der sich selbst (nach Sy Hersh) oder die CIA gemeinsam mit Sullivan, durch die Bombenanschläge auf Nord Stream II einen Namen gemacht hat. Aus den jüngsten Enthüllungen der New York Times wissen wir bereits, dass die CIA tief in die terroristischen Aktivitäten der Ukraine verstrickt ist.
Sullivan hat den Staffelstab von Victoria Nuland übernommen und ist nun der führende Förderer des Dritten Weltkriegs in der Biden-Regierung. Er war es, der vor einer Woche von Außenminister Blinken zurechtgewiesen werden musste, als er versuchte, den Wahlsieg von Wladimir Putin als illegitim zu bezeichnen. Die endgültige Formulierung der US-Position zu den Wahlen, die Biden zur Verlesung vorgelegt wurde, lautete, dass Putin der Präsident Russlands ist. Dies geschah jedoch erst nach einer großen internen Debatte, die Sullivan verloren hat. Das Massaker in der Crocus City Hall deutet darauf hin, dass Sullivan noch nicht begriffen hat, dass der Ausbruch des Dritten Weltkriegs Bidens Wahlchancen nicht verbessern wird.

The Russian Federation is profoundly outraged at the use by the NATO of military force against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
Those who are involved in this unilateral use of force against the sovereign Federal Republic of Yugoslavia — carried out in violation of the Charter of the United Nations and without the authorization of the Security Council — must realize the heavy responsibility they bear for subverting the Charter and other norms of international law and for attempting to establish in the world, de facto, the primacy of force and unilateral diktat.
The members of NATO are not entitled to decide the fate of other sovereign and independent States. They must not forget that they are not only members of their alliance, but also Members of the United Nations.
Attempts to justify the NATO strikes with arguments about preventing a humanitarian catastrophe in Kosovo are completely untenable.

Attempts to apply a different standard to international law and to disregard its basic norms and principles create a dangerous precedent that could cause acute destabilization and chaos on the regional and global level.
The fact that NATO has opted to use force in Kosovo raises very serious questions about the sincerity of the repeated assurances that that alliance was not claiming the role of the world’s policeman and was prepared to cooperate in the interests of common European security.

How Russian PM Primakov showed Moscow won’t be US satellite
On March 24, 1999, Yevgeny Primakov’s plane was en route to the US where the then-Russian prime minister was due to discuss an IMF loan to the tune of $5 billion for his country. But after then-US Vice President Al Gore told Primakov about NATO starting to bomb Yugoslavia, he decided to turn his plane around and go back to Moscow.
Despite Gore’s desperate attempts to persuade Primakov to backtrack on his decision and come to Washington, the Russian prime minister was undeterred.
“If I had accepted Gore’s terms, I would have been a real traitor,” Primakov later said.
Dr. Samuel Hoff, a professor of history and political science at Delaware State University, points to the significant expansion of NATO after the March 1999 incident.
“It is a fact that in 1999, NATO had 16 countries. And as we sit here in 2024, there are 32 members,” Hoff notes in an interview with Sputnik.
Peter Kuznick, a professor of history at the American University, tells Sputnik that Primakov’s U-turn over the Atlantic added significantly to tarnishing the already “strained” US-Russian relations at the time.
Referring to current “terrible” ties between Moscow and Washington, “the lack of trust” and a bilateral “polarization,” the professor says that one is “beginning to see signs of that certainly with Primakov’s mission in 1999.”
“So it certainly can be seen as an important turning point in terms of the deterioration of potential friendship between the US and Russia and creating a much more positive kind of multipolar world,” he concludes.

NATO’s bombing of Yugoslavia: A ‘culmination of negligence’ that opened Pandora’s box
Twenty-five years ago, NATO kicked off its 78-day bombing campaign against Yugoslavia. According to various sources, up to 2,500 people were killed and over 6,000 more injured during the bombing, which was not approved by the UN.
In an interview with Sputnik, Dr. Stevan Gajic, a Balkans expert and research associate at the Belgrade-based Institute of European Studies, says that the beginning of NATO’s “illegal attack” against Yugoslavia on March 24, 1999, was “a precedent that opened Pandora’s box.”
“It was a culmination of negligence of the international law that started since the end of the Cold War. Absolutely, [the] 1999 [NATO campaign] was a precedent. We can even say that the international law was in a way abolished at that moment and, of course, after that chaos was introduced into the system of international relations,” Gacic points out.
The expert also didn’t rule out launching a “real investigation against NATO crimes” in Yugoslavia, which he says can only happen after the serious geopolitical changes following the collapse of NATO in one way or the other. He was echoed by Dr. Srdjan Sljukic, a professor of sociology at the University of Novi Sad, Serbia, who tells Sputnik that “NATO aggression against Yugoslavia” reflected “two sorts of crimes,” such as “breaking the international law” and “bombing civilian objects and killing many civilians.”
Sljukic also warns that “as long as the key Western countries are ruled by the current liberal elites, NATO countries will not be put on fair trial because of their crimes in Yugoslavia and all over the world.”

History knows many events which, by virtue of their profound impact on the international order, marked a change of eras.
The NATO attack on the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia on March 24, 1999 is certainly one such event. It went beyond being a tragic milestone in the life of the Serbian people with thousands of ruined lives and desecrated national dignity, and included a devastating blow to international law and European security foundations that had been laid after World War II. The United States and the EU got finally convinced in their own impunity and moral superiority which was bad news for those who prefer to choose their own path rather than become someone’s tool in their efforts to realise their own interests. The strategic balance of power collapsed, and a drawn-out crisis of international relations ensued which continues to worsen.
The US and its allies who assaulted a peaceful European country trampled on the UN Charter and the CSCE/OSCE principles, and desecrated the very notion of sovereignty. They have thus made it clear that they will stoop to anything, including radioactive contamination of vast swathes of land, to achieve global dominance. The widespread use of depleted uranium munitions by NATO has led to a multifold increase in cancer cases in that region, contaminated the environment where millions of people had lived for many years, and went down in history as a separate dark chapter on the list of NATO crimes.
During the 78 days of military aggression 14,000 bombs were dropped on Yugoslavia and over 2,000 missiles were fired, including cluster and demolition shells. Under the mocking front of a “humanitarian intervention,” mostly civilian targets were hit, including residential districts, hospitals, schools, bridges, mass transit vehicles, and refugee convoys. Thousands of civilians were killed, including 89 children, whom the Western coalition cynically referred to as “collateral damage.” No one has ever been held accountable for these atrocities, and international justice turned a deaf ear to the suffering of the Serbs and let NATO atrocities go unnoticed.
Not only the bombed-out buildings of the Yugoslav General Staff and Defence Ministry in central Belgrade which irritate the US officials to this day remind us of those terrible days. Serbia has many other unhealed wounds. A portion of the country’s ancestral territory, Kosovo and Metohija, has been forcibly taken away. The West has taken under its wing terrorists from the Kosovo Liberation Army, gave the province the status of a pseudo-state, and encourages the expulsion of the indigenous Serbian population.
This inevitably begs the question: was the “Kosovo project” worth the sacrifice and destruction that the alliance brought upon Yugoslavia? Has the self-proclaimed “republic” added stability or prosperity to the Balkan region?
There is no doubt that the United States’ concern for the rights of Kosovo Albanians is a fake claim from the get-go. It is nothing but a false pretext for the crackdown on Serbs.
The West’s goal was to turn the provisional self-governing bodies in Pristina into a tool for anti-Serb ethnic cleansing and a festering trouble spot to put pressure on Belgrade. At the end of the day, the Kosovo settlement is in a deadlock, and the situation on the ground threatens to escalate into an armed conflict.
This is what the Western “peacemaking” is all about. Its disastrous ramifications can now be seen in Ukraine, where a neo-Nazi regime has been nurtured on the basis of Washington and its supporters’ rejection of the principles of equality and mutual respect in international affairs, a regime that committed genocide against the Russian population and plunged the country into a military face-off.
We can hear the US and the EU increasingly call on Serbs to “turn the page” and forgive NATO for the invasion that took place 25 years ago. On top of that, they lay the bulk of the blame on the Serbs for the dramatic events during the breakup of Yugoslavia, including the 1999 bombing attacks. I’d be hard pressed to find proper words to describe the extent of Western shamelessness and lack of self-criticism.
The Alliance will never be able to wash off the shame of war crimes. No one believes its demagoguery about defending freedom and democracy anymore. The United States and the rest of NATO have no right whatsoever to talk about implementing an obscure new “rules-based order.” Their every effort to put together some kind of “global security architecture” is by definition malevolent and toxic, and aimed solely at perpetrating the neocolonial hegemony of the West.
Russia and its partners in Belgrade will continue to oppose the attempts to distort the history of the Yugoslav crisis and to shift the emphasis to demonising Serbs and justifying the 1999 aggression. The attempts to insult the memory of the innocent victims of NATO hangmen are unacceptable.

Finally a substantial feed of information on the massacre is being released to the public by Russian official news channels including RT. Moreover at 15.00 Moscow time, President Putin delivered a televised address to the nation on this tragedy. In what follows I will provide relevant facts and my own commentary.
First, as was expected, the death toll has risen sharply from first news last night. It now stands at 140 and may go still higher. Most of the victims apparently died from gunshot wounds. Some died from asphyxiation linked to smoke from the fire on the premises which the attackers lit with incendiary devices. The event under attack was a rock concert that was about to begin and many of those killed were children and adolescents, a fact which, rightly or wrongly, Russians consider particularly heinous.
We know that 11 of those responsible were apprehended, including the four who committed the murders in the auditorium. They were caught in a forest of the Bryansk province, following a car chase and exchange of gunfire with law enforcement officers when they tried to evade a roadside control. They were driving their Renault car in the direction of the Ukrainian border.
We are told that several at least are citizens of the Central Asian republic of Tajikistan, although Tajik authorities deny that their people were involved. Representatives of the Islamic State terrorist organization have claimed responsibility, although that by itself says nothing about ultimate directions from Ukraine.
One of the terrorists revealed under police interrogation that they were paid 500,000 rubles for the attack, amounting to a paltry $5,000. Another 500,000 was to be paid later, following the attack, but it is safe to assume that the paymasters never expected that half to be paid out.
Vladimir Putin’s address to the nation was calm and non-accusatory with respect to the puppet masters behind the atrocity, though he did drop a couple of hints as to who they are, which I will mention in a minute.

The title of this news item gives you the first hint – “Putin: there is information about the preparation of an escape window for the murderers on the Ukrainian side”
Otherwise, Putin’s opening words were of comfort to the bereaved and relatives of those wounded. We know from other sources that the Moscow and Moscow regional authorities have announced compensation to be paid to all victims and their relatives.
Putin put the attack in the context of global terrorism and did not specifically name anyone. He said that what was planned was a mass murder, a kind of ‘demonstrative execution’ such as were committed by the Nazis under Hitler. We may call this hint number two in the direction of Ukraine.
Tomorrow has been declared a national day of mourning in Russia. The Culture Ministry has cancelled all events involving large gatherings of people and cities across Russia have declared heightened security measures. Indeed the situation at the Crocus City Hall was exceedingly lax: there were no armed guards. The security people had only wooden clubs, not firearms, and they apparently were in their quarters when they were tracked down by the assailants and murdered first before they proceeded to the auditorium.
Let there be no confusion here: the tragedy yesterday is a turning point in the war. I remain persuaded that it was an American sanctioned or directed provocation intended to elicit the violent response that I mentioned in my last essay – a Russian strike on Kiev with intent to decapitate the Zelensky regime.

After Ankara and Washington successfully swapped Sweden’s NATO accession for an F-16 fighter jet deal, Turkiye is focused on accelerating that rapprochement and is willing to sweep divisive issues – like genocide in Gaza – under the rug.

On 7–8 March, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Intelligence Chief Ibrahim Kalin visited Washington. The trip garnered attention as it marked Turkiye’s first official visit to the US following the conclusion of the ‘Sweden for F-16’ deal, whereby Ankara accepted Stockholm’s accession to NATO in exchange for US Congressional approval of the sale of 40 F-16s to Turkiye.
During the visit, the two Turkish officials met with their US counterparts Antony Blinken and William Burns, along with National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, and their respective foreign ministers chaired the seventh meeting of the US–Turkiye Strategic Mechanism.

US–Turkish rapprochement
The thaw in US–Turkish relations has been palpable, as noted by Jeff Flake, the US Ambassador to Ankara, during a televised interview: “Especially in recent months, the two countries have developed shared areas. We observe improvements in defense, trade, and interpersonal relations.”
A closer examination of the joint statement released following the meeting illustrates the transition of Turkish–American relations into a more favorable and cooperative phase.
Established in 2021 and inaugurated on 4 April 2021 amidst escalating discord between Turkiye and the US, the strategic mechanism was conceived to address and improve the strained bilateral relations.
The joint statement issued by the Strategic Mechanism this month included several crucial points, each carrying significant implications:
Both parties addressed the ongoing war in Ukraine, condemning Russia’s actions as ‘unacceptable’ while emphasizing the importance of upholding Ukraine’s unity and sovereignty. However, it is worth noting that Ankara’s endorsement of the statement’s rhetoric aligns more closely with Kiev’s perspective, a deviation from Turkiye’s previous neutral stance. This marked shift will undermine President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s aspirations to mediate the conflict impartially.

Playing to the audience
On Israel’s brutal military assault in Gaza, the statement merely referred to an “ongoing crisis” and “underlined the importance of finding a path towards ending the conflict and addressing the humanitarian crisis immediately.” This is a war that Erdogan has, on the record, framed as a “genocide” and called its aggressors in Tel Aviv “war criminals.”
While both parties expressed support for the “two-state solution” as an end goal to the war, the statement’s release coincided with a fiery speech by Erdogan in Istanbul in which he attacked Israel, calling it “the Nazis of our time.” The contrast between the two statements is a real-time reflection of how Turkiye addresses its different target audiences.
On the issue of combating terrorism, the statement endorses joint US–Turkish efforts against organizations like the PKK, ISIS, and Al-Qaeda across regions spanning from Africa to Central Asia. They also recommitted to counterterrorism consultations and discussions on the Syria file, including the adherence to UN Resolution 2254 and supporting a “Syrian-led, Syrian-owned political process.”
The two parties addressed a multitude of regional issues in West Asia and Africa in alignment with the broader US strategy outlined by National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, which focuses on partnership-building, deterrence, diplomacy, regional integration, and “democracy promotion” in these geographies.
This includes cooperation in military industry, energy, and trade development, reflecting the existing $30 billion trade volume between Washington and Ankara.
Significantly, the parties discussed leveraging financing opportunities under the Global Infrastructure and Investment Partnership – a western initiative intended to rival China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). This partnership includes the controversial India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and economic development very much to the benefit of Israel.
New Turkish military action in Syria and Iraq?
As the municipal elections in Turkiye draw near – with Erdogan seeking to reclaim his Justice and Development Party’s (AKP) control of Istanbul and Ankara after notable previous losses – there’s a tangible resurgence in Turkish rhetoric advocating for military action in northern Syria and Iraq.
According to reports from the Turkish news agency T24, the Turkish armed forces are gearing up for an operation against the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) inside its neighboring states following local elections on 31 March.
After a 4 March cabinet meeting, Erdogan spoke of Turkiye’s readiness for a comprehensive operation against the Kurdish separatist groups and reiterated Ankara’s objective of establishing a security corridor spanning 30 to 40 kilometers along the Turkish–Syrian border.
Although the military rhetoric is undoubtedly influenced by Erdogan’s bid to attract nationalist voters in the upcoming elections, it is also connected to the recent Turkish–Iraqi diplomatic breakthrough following a high-level Turkish delegation’s visit to Baghdad.
The meeting in the Iraqi capital led to a security deal in which both countries committed to take action against the PKK. A joint statement read:
Both sides stressed that the PKK organization represents a security threat to both Turkiye and Iraq, and it is certain that the presence of the organization on Iraqi territory represents a violation of the Iraqi constitution … Turkiye welcomed the decision taken by the Iraqi National Security Council to list the PKK as a banned organization in Iraq. The two sides consulted on the measures that must be taken against the organization and its banned extensions [PKK’s alleged offshoots] that target Turkiye from within Iraq’s territory.
Fidan’s senior adviser, Nuh Yilmaz, praised the move, saying, “Turkiye and Iraq decided for the first time to fight jointly against PKK terrorism.” In a post on platform X, he added: “A decision that will mark a turning point! We will see results gradually!”
Strategic interests come first
According to a well-informed Turkish source:
Turkey’s main purpose is very clear. The presence of the PKK in Metina and Gara [in northern Iraq] has the potential to seriously threaten the Iraq Development Road Project … We both would like to remove PKK from these two areas as well as secure the area for the construction of the project, reaching both objectives in one step.
Ankara and Baghdad seek to counter any threat to this development road project, a land corridor linking the port of Faw in Basra to the Turkish border and from there to Europe.
In this context, Erdogan is expected to visit Baghdad for the first time since 2012, where, some speculate, he will try to conclude a border control security agreement with the Iraqi government and seek to convince Baghdad to support future Turkish military operations against the PKK.
Despite Turkiye and Erdogan’s vocal criticism of Israeli atrocities in Gaza, recent interactions between Ankara and Washington indicate a pragmatic approach in their dealings, through which Turkiye hopes to be reinstated as an important US strategic partner.
While the Turkish president is stepping up anti-Zionist rhetoric on his domestic front, his administration maintains substantial economic ties with Israel, exporting various vital goods and services to the occupation state.
Although a Washington–Ankara rapprochement is still in its nascent stage, recent developments reveal the old allies are on a positive trajectory to repair bilateral relations after a period of strained diplomatic ties.
Erdogan’s foreign policy approach – as exemplified by his rhetorical Gaza stance and material support for Israel – makes clear Turkiye’s shift toward prioritizing strategic interests over ideological ones.

Nuclear Threat, World War III and Turkey: Balance Policy or a Game?
Is Turkey’s rhetorical stance of “balancing” a genuine attempt at strategic equilibrium, or merely an endeavor to occupy multiple positions simultaneously?

Alexander Stubb, the newly elected president of Finland, has made several noteworthy statements regarding the current geopolitical climate. He emphasized the escalating tensions amidst discussions of a World War III. Stubb, representing the center-right National Coalition Party, expressed openness to the possibility of allowing the transportation and storage of U.S. nuclear weapons in Finnish territory, branding them as a “guarantee of peace.” This stance remained consistent throughout his election campaign and was reiterated upon assuming office. Stubb underscored the necessity for Finland to possess a tangible nuclear deterrent force, citing NATO membership as pivotal in providing multiple layers of deterrence, including military, munitions, and nuclear deterrence from the USA. He further asserted that Finland’s alignment with NATO signifies a definitive step towards embracing Western values, a sentiment echoed by the inclusion of Turkey as an enthusiastic participant in the anticipated third major conflict.
However, Finland’s enthusiasm for NATO membership has not gone unnoticed by Russia, which shares a significant border with the country. In response to Finland and Sweden’s accession to NATO, Russian President Putin announced plans to bolster military presence along the Western borders to counteract perceived threats stemming from NATO’s eastward expansion. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov conveyed Moscow’s acknowledgment of the democratic choice made by the Finnish people but indicated pessimism regarding potential improvements in Russo-Finnish relations.
The most explicit reaction to Stubb’s nuclear policy came from Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mariya Zakharova. Addressing the issue during a weekly press conference at the World Youth Festival in Sochi, Zakharova outlined Russia’s stance on the placement of U.S. nuclear weapons in Northern Europe. She asserted that such deployments would be considered a direct threat and would consequently be designated as legitimate targets in the event of a direct military conflict between Russia and NATO. Zakharova underscored Russia’s awareness of the desires of the United States and its allies in this regard.

The primary source of concern regarding nuclear capabilities is now widely recognized to stem from the potential for World War III to be nuclear in nature. When discussing nuclear power, the focus often turns to Russia, acknowledged as the “world’s largest nuclear power”.
Western media consistently highlights the perceived “nuclear threat emanating from the authoritarian Kremlin”. However, to truly address the concept of a “nuclear danger”, it is essential to consider the United States, which has transformed Europe into a depot for nuclear weapons, rather than Russia, which does not maintain nuclear forces beyond its borders, apart from the neighboring Belarus.
The United States and its NATO allies do not disclose precise figures regarding the stockpiles deployed in Europe. Nevertheless, estimates from the U.S.-based Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation in 2021 suggest that around 100 U.S. nuclear weapons are stored across six bases in five NATO member countries.
These weapons are kept in inactive states within underground vaults at national air bases. Notably, the “permissive action link” (PAL) codes required to activate these weapons are under American control. In the event of their use, the weapons would be loaded onto warplanes designated by NATO.
This situation is intricately tied to the “modernization” efforts undertaken by nations operating F-35A, F-18 Super Hornet, or Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft.
U.S. nuclear weapons have been stationed in Europe since the mid-1950s, authorized by President Dwight D. Eisenhower for storage at NATO bases on the continent as a deterrent against the Soviet Union.
Stored in warehouses across Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and other countries, these weapons are maintained for potential deployment when required. Additionally, countries such as Czechia, Denmark, Greece, Hungary, Norway, Poland, and Romania participate in SNOWCAT operations, facilitating NATO partner involvement in nuclear missions.
Meanwhile, Finland, under the leadership of Stubb, is positioning itself as a significant player in the ongoing ’nuclear preparedness’ measures originally aimed at countering the USSR and persisting in response to Russia.
This dynamic persists alongside ongoing military actions initiated by NATO against Russia. Notably, the commencement of Steadfast Defender-24, hailed as NATO’s largest military exercise since the Cold War, marks a significant development. This exercise aims to test the transfer of military forces to Eastern Europe and beyond, encompassing regions where Russia’s influence is perceived as encroaching.
This exercise constitutes a series of 15 maneuvers rather than a singular major military operation.
Steadfast Defender encompasses various other exercises conducted at national or regional levels, including Joint Warrior, Solid Approach, Arctic Dolphin, Northern Response, Immediate Response, Brilliant Jump, Movable Defender, Slovak Shield, Saber Strike, Trojan Trail-24, and Spring Storm.

Turkey actively participates in these exercises, with the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) playing a pivotal role in Brilliant Jump, Nordic Response, Saber Strike, and Immediate Response exercises.
Turkey’s involvement extends beyond military participation; it also hosts one of NATO’s most crucial commands. The permanent headquarters of NATO Land Forces, known as Allied Land Command (LANDCOM), is situated in Izmir.
Decisions regarding NATO’s land maneuvers are made at the command post within the General Vecihi Akın Barracks in Buca, Izmir. Given its historical significance, Izmir, where the first shot was fired against invaders a century ago, could potentially be remembered as the site where the decision to initiate the first shot of a world-engulfing war was made if a new global conflict were to erupt on Russia’s borders.
This prompts consideration of Turkey’s rhetorical stance of “balancing”. Is it a genuine attempt at strategic equilibrium, or merely an endeavor to occupy multiple positions simultaneously?

Exhibit 1: Friday, March 22, 2024. It’s War. The Kremlin, via Peskov, finally admits it, on the record.
The money quote:
“Russia cannot allow the existence on its borders of a state that has a documented intention to use any methods to take Crimea away from it, not to mention the territory of new regions.”
Translation: the Hegemon-constructed Kiev mongrel is doomed, one way or another. The Kremlin signal: “We haven’t even started” starts now.
Exhibit 2: Friday afternoon, a few hours after Peskov. Confirmed by a serious European – not Russian – source. The first counter-signal.
Regular troops from France, Germany and Poland have arrived, by rail and air, to Cherkassy, south of Kiev. A substantial force. No numbers leaked. They are being housed in schools. For all practical purposes, this is a NATO force.
That signals, “Let the games begin”. From a Russian point of view, Mr. Khinzal’s business cards are set to be in great demand.
Exhibit 3: Friday evening. Terror attack on Crocus City, a music venue northwest of Moscow. A heavily trained commando shoots people on sight, point blank, in cold blood, then sets a concert hall on fire. The definitive counter-signal: with the battlefield collapsing, all that’s left is terrorism in Moscow.
And just as terror was striking Moscow, the US and the UK, in southwest Asia, was bombing Sana’a, the Yemeni capital, with at least five strikes.
Some nifty coordination. Yemen has just clinched a strategic deal in Oman with Russia-China for no-hassle navigation in the Red Sea, and is among the top candidates for BRICS+ expansion at the summit in Kazan next October.
Not only the Houthis are spectacularly defeating thalassocracy, they have the Russia-China strategic partnership on their side. Assuring China and Russia that their ships can sail through the Bab-al-Mandeb, Red Sea and Gulf of Aden with no problems is exchanged with total political support from Beijing and Moscow.
The sponsors remain the same
Deep in the night in Moscow, before dawn on Saturday 23. Virtually no one is sleeping. Rumors dance like dervishes on countless screens. Of course nothing has been confirmed – yet. Only the FSB will have answers. A massive investigation is in progress.
The timing of the Crocus massacre is quite intriguing. On a Friday during Ramadan. Real Muslims would not even think about perpetrating a mass murder of unarmed civilians under such a holy occasion. Compare it with the ISIS card being frantically branded by the usual suspects.
Let’s go pop. To quote Talking Heads: “This ain’t no party/ this ain’t no disco/ this ain’t no fooling around”. Oh no; it’s more like an all-American psy op. ISIS are cartoonish mercenaries/goons. Not real Muslims. And everyone knows who finances and weaponizes them.
That leads to the most possible scenario, before the FSB weighs in: ISIS goons imported from the Syria battleground – as it stands, probably Tajiks – trained by CIA and MI6, working on behalf of the Ukrainian SBU. Several witnesses at Crocus referred to “Wahhabis” – as in the commando killers did not look like Slavs.
It was up to Serbia’s Aleksandar Vucic to cut to the chase. He directly connected the “warnings” in early March from American and British embassies directed at their citizens not to visit public places in Moscow with CIA/MI6 intel having inside info about possible terrorism, and not disclosing it to Moscow.

… Donald Trump.
Talk about a Deep State-pinpointed target.
ISIS spin-off or banderistas – the sponsors remain the same. The clownish secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Oleksiy Danilov, was dumb enough to virtually, indirectly confirm they did it, saying on Ukrainian TV, “we will give them [Russians] this kind of fun more often.”
But it was up to Sergei Goncharov, a veteran of the elite Russia Alpha anti-terrorism unit, to get closer to unwrapping the enigma: he told Sputnik the most feasible mastermind is Kyrylo Budanov – the chief of the Main Directorate of Intelligence at the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense.

The three exhibits above complement what the head of NATO’s military committee, Rob Bauer, previously told a security forum in Kiev: “You need more than just grenades – you need people to replace the dead and wounded. And this means mobilization.”
Translation: NATO spelling out this is a war until the last Ukrainian.
And the “leadership” in Kiev still does not get it. Former Minister of Infrastructure Omelyan: “If we win, we will pay back with Russian oil, gas, diamonds and fur. If we lose, there will be no talk of money – the West will think about how to survive.”
In parallel, puny “garden-and jungle” Borrell admitted that it would be “difficult” for the EU to find an extra 50 billion euros for Kiev if Washington pulls the plug. The cocaine-fueled sweaty sweatshirt leadership actually believes that Washington is not “helping” in the form of loans, but in the form of free gifts. And the same applies for the EU.
The Theater of the Absurd is unmatchable. The German Liver Sausage Chancellor actually believes that proceeds from stolen Russian assets “do not belong to anyone”, so they can be used to finance extra Kiev weaponizing.
Everyone with a brain knows that using interest from “frozen”, actually stolen Russian assets to weaponize Ukraine is a dead end – unless they steal all of Russia’s assets, roughly $200 billion, mostly parked in Belgium and Switzerland: that would tank the Euro for good, and the whole EU economy for that matter.
Eurocrats better listen to Russian Central Bank major “disrupter” (American terminology) Elvira Nabiullina: The Bank of Russia will take “appropriate measures” if the EU does anything on the “frozen”/stolen Russian assets.
It goes without saying that the three exhibits above completely nullify the “La Cage aux Folles” circus promoted by the puny Petit Roi, now known across his French domains as Macronapoleon.
Virtually the whole planet, including the English-speaking Global North, had already been mocking the “exploits” of his Can Can Moulin Rouge Army.
So French, German and Polish soldiers, as part of NATO, are already in the south of Kiev. The most possible scenario is that they will stay far, far away from the frontlines – although traceable by Mr. Khinzal’s business activities.
Even before this new NATO batch arriving in the south of Kiev, Poland – which happens to serve as prime transit corridor for Kiev’s troops – had confirmed that Western troops are already on the ground.
So this is not about mercenaries anymore. France, by the way, is only 7th in terms of mercenaries on the ground, largely trailing Poland, the US and Georgia, for instance. The Russian Ministry of Defense has all the precise records.
In a nutshell: now war has morphed from Donetsk, Avdeyevka and Belgorod to Moscow. Further on down the road, it may not just stop in Kiev. It may only stop in Lviv. Mr. 87%, enjoying massive national near-unanimity, now has the mandate to go all the way. Especially after Crocus.
There’s every possibility the terror tactics by Kiev goons will finally drive Russia to return Ukraine to its original 17th century landlocked borders: Black Sea-deprived, and with Poland, Romania, and Hungary reclaiming their former territories.
Remaining Ukrainians will start to ask serious questions about what led them to fight – literally to their death – on behalf of the US Deep State, the military complex and BlackRock.

Une nuit de novembre 2023, le plongeur Gregg Furstenwerth a braqué sa lampe de poche sur un poisson qui nageait dans une prairie sous-marine de l’archipel des Keys, au large de la Floride.
Ce qu’il a découvert l’a surpris : un sar salème en détresse tournant et se retournant sur lui-même. Perplexe, il a filmé ce comportement à l’aide de sa caméra sous-marine.
Lorsque certains de ses amis et des plongeurs lui ont rapporté qu’ils avaient également observé des poissons tournoyant sur eux-mêmes, Gregg Furstenwerth a commencé à documenter d’autres incidents, à la fois depuis son bateau et depuis les quais où il se promenait la nuit.
Les premiers phénomènes ont principalement été observés le long d’une bande d’eau d’un peu plus de 56 kilomètres dans les Lower Keys, un archipel tropical d’îles au sud de la Floride continentale. D’après Bonefish & Tarpon Trust, organisme à but non lucratif pour la protection de certaines espèces de poissons, trois cas ont ensuite été signalés à Miami. Puis, plus récemment, un autre a été rapporté dans les Upper Keys.
En mars 2024, les personnes vivant sur ces territoires et les scientifiques ont constaté cet étrange comportement chez au moins quarante-quatre espèces, dont le poisson-scie trident, en danger critique d’extinction. Selon la Commission de conservation de la faune et de la flore en Floride, de nombreux poissons ont été retrouvés morts, bien qu’aucun dénombrement officiel n’ait été effectué.
Le fait que la cause de cette affection touchant les poissons ne soit pas encore connue à l’heure actuelle a incité plusieurs universités, instituts et agences de l’État à collaborer afin de pouvoir identifier celle-ci au plus vite.
« Tout le monde veut maintenant savoir de quoi il s’agit », déclare Alison Robertson, une océanologue qui étudie les efflorescences algales nuisibles à la Stokes School of Marine and Environmental Sciences de la University of South Alabama et au Dauphin Island Sea Lab, le centre d’enseignement et de recherche marine de l’Alabama.
« Nous allons faire tout ce qui est en notre pouvoir pour collaborer afin d’essayer d’identifier ce problème et d’apporter des solutions », poursuit-elle. « Il est très étrange de voir un événement se prolonger ainsi et affecter autant d’espèces différentes. »
Parmi les causes possibles figurent : la prolifération d’algues nuisibles, qui peuvent produire des neurotoxines ayant un impact sur le comportement des poissons ; les substances polluantes ; les facteurs environnementaux tels qu’un niveau d’oxygène bas ou des températures élevées ; les maladies ; et les parasites.
« C’est difficile à gérer », déclare Gregg Furstenwerth au sujet des incidents dont il a été témoin. « Mais je dois continuer, ce n’est pas dans ma nature d’abandonner. »
« Lorsque des poissons sont en détresse ou tués en Floride, la première chose à laquelle les gens pensent est une marée rouge », explique Michael Parsons, écologue marin qui étudie également les efflorescences algales à la Florida Gulf Coast University.
Les marées rouges se produisent lorsque des algues microscopiques, un type de phytoplancton, prolifèrent soudainement le long d’une zone côtière, libérant dans l’eau des toxines naturelles qui peuvent nuire à la faune et à la flore, et même à l’Homme.
Ce n’est néanmoins pas le cas ici. Selon Kelly Richmond, de la Commission de conservation de la faune et de la flore en Floride, aucune preuve ne corroborait l’existence d’une marée rouge dans l’archipel des Keys, de faibles niveaux d’oxygène, de températures élevées ou encore de parasites sur les poissons morts.
Alison Robertson, Michael Parsons et leurs collègues étudient la présence de toxines algales naturelles dans l’eau, les sédiments, les algues et une variété de poissons prélevés dans l’archipel.
Les échantillons d’eau ont par exemple révélé des niveaux plus élevés que la normale d’un type d’algue présent sur les fonds marins, du genre Gambierdiscus. En temps normal, un litre d’eau provenant de l’archipel des Keys comporte trente à quarante cellules de Gambierdiscus, alors que les échantillons récemment prélevés dans les zones touchées en comptaient environ un millier. Certains poissons prélevés contenaient des ciguatoxines, qui proviennent également de Gambierdiscus, et d’autres individus de l’acide okadaïque, produit par un autre type d’algue vivant au fond de l’eau.
La ciguatera est plus fréquente dans les zones contenant des récifs coralliens, soumises à des contraintes environnementales. L’archipel des Keys est confronté à une myriade de problèmes, notamment le réchauffement des eaux qui entraîne le blanchissement des coraux, la pollution de l’eau et le développement du littoral.
Les personnes qui consomment des poissons contenant des niveaux élevés de ciguatoxines peuvent contracter la ciguatera, une maladie qui provoque des vomissements, des nausées et des symptômes neurologiques. Lors d’expériences précédentes en laboratoire, les poissons ayant ingéré de la nourriture contenant des ciguatoxines présentaient des déficits neurologiques, notamment une hyperactivité et un comportement agité.
Pour la prochaine étape, les scientifiques prévoient d’exposer des poissons de laboratoire à de l’eau prélevée dans des zones de Big Pine Key, où d’autres de ces animaux présentant cet étrange comportement ont été observés. Si ces poissons commencent à agir de la même manière dans les six à douze heures, cette eau sera testée pour détecter la présence de toxines. Les résultats seront ensuite comparés à ceux d’une autre expérience au cours de laquelle des poissons seront exposés à des toxines ajoutées à de l’eau de mer artificielle, dont les niveaux seront similaires à ceux observés dans l’eau de l’archipel des Keys.
Ces expériences « nous aideront à confirmer ou à infirmer l’impact de ces algues et de leurs toxines sur les comportements des poissons observés dans les Keys », explique Michael Parsons.
Une équipe de l’Ocean First Institute, organisation à but non lucratif pour la préservation des océans, prévoit également de comparer des échantillons de sang de requins prélevés avant l’apparition de ce phénomène avec ceux extraits plus récemment. L’objectif est de déterminer les effets à long terme sur la santé des espèces de requins ayant manifesté ce comportement étrange et d’étudier de quelle manière celui-ci est induit dans le corps, explique Christopher Malinowski, directeur de recherche et de conservation de l’institut.
« Malheureusement, la mortalité des poissons est omniprésente », ajoute Michael Parson. « Mais dans ce cas, nous ne pouvons expliquer les morts par les causes habituelles. C’est ce qui fait l’étrangeté de cet événement. »
Le cas du poisson-scie trident est particulièrement préoccupant. Depuis 2003, ce dernier est inscrit sur la liste rouge mondiale des espèces menacées comme étant en danger critique d’extinction, notamment en raison de l’aménagement du littoral et des prises accessoires. Il n’existe que cinq espèces de poissons-scies au monde et celle-ci est la seule présente dans les eaux américaines.
Depuis le début du mois de mars, vingt-et-un poissons-scies ont été retrouvés morts et l’on a signalé jusqu’à soixante individus en détresse, indique Dean Grubbs, écologue spécialiste des poissons à l’université d’État de Floride qui étudie cette espèce. Le 13 mars, l’un d’entre eux a été repéré comme étant en détresse à Boynton Beach, à plus de 321 kilomètres au nord, si loin que la découverte en est, selon lui, « inquiétante ».
« En ce qui concerne le poisson-scie, il est évidemment très préoccupant de voir mourir autant d’animaux de si grande taille », explique Dean Grubbs.
Alors que le poisson-scie trident, qui peut atteindre près de 3,6 mètres de long, était historiquement présent des deux côtés de l’Atlantique, seules deux populations subsistent aux Bahamas et aux États-Unis, la seconde étant la plus importante. « Cela signifie que le rétablissement de l’espèce dépend en grande partie de la population américaine », poursuit l’écologue.
« Je ne pense pas que nous soyons encore capables de dire s’il s’agit d’un problème qui sera résolu dans un an, et dont nous ne saurons même pas la cause, ou si la situation est potentiellement catastrophique. J’espère que la diffusion de ces informations sera profitable à l’intelligence collective. »

Bad news travels fast and major international broadcasters are always on the lookout to talking heads for ‘added value’ commentary.
Thus, I was not surprised to receive a phone call from a key Indian television network at 10 pm last night requesting some sage words about the breaking news events in a suburb of Moscow, where a large concert hall had just been attacked by several men in camouflage outfits wielding automatic weapons. At that moment 40 people inside the hall were reported to have been killed on the spot; this morning the number has risen to 60 and it may yet go higher.
Not much more about the tragedy was known then and I declined to comment. Not much more is known now, given that official Russian news releases are very sparing and cautious. We have heard that a ‘criminal investigation’ was opened into the case, but such investigations are opened daily into hundreds of cases relating to the war with Ukraine, mostly in the border territories. Those investigations are purely pro forma and yield no results worthy of discussion.
We are also told that the various Russian law enforcement and intelligence agencies are working on the case. Full stop. So far there is no official Russian speculation on who may have been behind this attack, who perpetrated it. Meanwhile, United States news portals say that American authorities warned the Russians that a terrorist attack was coming in March. No more than that bald assertion is known.
However, one does not have to be a Sherlock Holmes to understand that in one way or another Kiev is behind this latest terrorist attack. And, in one way or another, U.S. intelligence operatives are giving instructions to their Ukrainian counterparts on what is allowable in terrorist operations and what is not. The Financial Times said as much yesterday in an article entitled “US has urged Ukraine to halt strikes on Russian oil refineries.” Yesterday’s New York Times carried the same information.
That attacks on Russian oil refineries are a no-no has nothing to do with America’s views of sabotage and terrorism directed against Russia more generally. It is motivated solely by self-interest of the Biden administration, which fears that reduction in Russian oil production and exports will negatively affect global markets, raise prices of gas at the pump in the United States, and impact negatively on the Democrats’ electoral chances in November. There is no interest whatsoever in what terrorist acts may or may not mean for taking the lives of Russian civilians.

Let us be perfectly clear: the more desperate the Ukrainian military position on the battlefield becomes, and by all reports, Western and Russian, the situation is dire and Ukrainians are being pushed back to the West daily, the more vicious and spectacular are the Ukrainian directed or inspired acts of terror against Russian civilians in the ‘occupied territories’ of the Donbas and Crimea, and more recently in the Russian heartland. In terms of range, the latest Ukrainian drones have a 1,000 km operating zone and so are reaching well beyond Moscow and St Petersburg. As we see from the events last night, detachments of Ukrainian directed executioners can wreak havoc in the very neighborhood of the Russian capital.
The question of a shift from conventional warfare in which Ukrainian forces are being decimated, with or without Western military and financial help, to terrorist operations was already discussed in Western as well as Russian media a month ago when General Zaluzhny was about to be replaced as head of the Ukrainian military forces. There was speculation that his successor might well become Kirill Budanov, head of the Ukrainian military intelligence services and director of the campaign of sabotage and terror against Russia, which was even then yielding very impressive results while the regular army was floundering. Instead, Zelensky selected General Oleksandr Syrsky to replace Zaluzhny. Syrsky, as we know, was the general who threw away the lives of his soldiers in hopeless efforts to retain strategically unimportant towns and he has continued this military folly in the latest Ukrainian counter-attacks around Avdeevka. Meanwhile, Budanov’s star has continued to rise. Yesterday’s carnage at the Crocus City Hall is only the latest and most publicized proof.

The Putin administration is clearly wary of pointing a finger at Kiev for this outrage. But the Russian public is surely going to put enormous pressure on the Kremlin to face up to the facts and to do something more than just another ‘revenge attack’ on Ukrainian military infrastructure such as was carried out several days ago in response to the latest Ukrainian incursions and missile attacks in the Russian border province of Belgorod, near Ukraine’s second city of Kharkov.
There surely will be those Russian patriots who will call for a decapitating strike on Kiev to get rid of Zelensky and the neo-Nazis who de facto control his government at one blow. This has been achievable at any moment over the course of the past two years but was not done by the Kremlin for reasons that have nothing to do with its Christian faith guided humanitarian values.
No, the reason was to prevent what has been until recently a conventional war contained within certain rules of conduct degenerating into a partisan war without rules such as you commonly see in fratricidal military conflict.
The fact today is that with the upsurge of spectacular terrorist attacks on and inside Russia Ukraine is de facto already engaged in all-out ‘partisan’ style warfare. The fact is that with the threat of a French directed invasion force entering Ukraine set out in the past week, with the delivery of F-16s to Kiev approaching, and with the delivery of nuclear enabled German Taurus cruise missiles still under discussion, the time for end-game division of what remains of Ukraine among the interested parties is here and now.
The logic of the U.S. encouragement to Kiev to perpetrate exactly this kind of atrocity is obvious to anyone with eyes to see. It was precisely attacks like this, as for example during the Chechen wars and the Beslan school siege-massacre that Putin was enraged and responded violently. The decapitation of Kiev now will be very convenient also for Washington.

Schlechte Nachrichten verbreiten sich schnell, und die großen internationalen Fernsehsender sind immer auf der Suche nach Kommentaren mit “Mehrwert”.
So war ich nicht überrascht, als ich gestern Abend um 22.00 Uhr einen Anruf von einem wichtigen indischen Fernsehsender erhielt, der mich um einige kluge Worte zu den aktuellen Ereignissen in einem Vorort von Moskau bat, wo eine große Konzerthalle gerade von mehreren Männern in Tarnkleidung und mit automatischen Waffen angegriffen worden war. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt wurde berichtet, dass 40 Menschen in der Halle an Ort und Stelle getötet wurden; heute Morgen ist die Zahl auf 60 gestiegen, und sie könnte noch höher liegen.
Zu diesem Zeitpunkt war nicht viel mehr über die Tragödie bekannt, und ich habe es abgelehnt, mich dazu zu äußern. Auch jetzt ist nicht viel mehr bekannt, da die offiziellen russischen Pressemitteilungen sehr sparsam und zurückhaltend sind. Man muss jedoch kein Sherlock Holmes sein, um zu verstehen, dass Kiew auf die eine oder andere Weise hinter diesem jüngsten Terroranschlag steckt. Und auf die eine oder andere Weise geben US-Geheimdienstmitarbeiter ihren ukrainischen Kollegen Anweisungen, was bei terroristischen Operationen erlaubt ist und was nicht. Das berichtete die Financial Times gestern in einem Artikel mit der Überschrift “Die USA haben die Ukraine aufgefordert, die Angriffe auf russische Ölraffinerien einzustellen”. Die gestrige Ausgabe der New York Times enthielt die gleiche Information.
Dass Angriffe auf russische Ölraffinerien verboten sind, hat nichts mit Amerikas Ansichten über Sabotage und Terrorismus gegen Russland im Allgemeinen zu tun. Dahinter steht einzig und allein das Eigeninteresse der Regierung Biden, die befürchtet, dass ein Rückgang der russischen Ölproduktion und -exporte sich negativ auf die Weltmärkte auswirken, die Benzinpreise in den Vereinigten Staaten in die Höhe treiben und die Wahlchancen der Demokraten im November beeinträchtigen wird. Es besteht keinerlei Interesse daran, was terroristische Akte für das Leben der russischen Zivilbevölkerung bedeuten können oder nicht.

Um es ganz klar zu sagen: Je verzweifelter die ukrainische militärische Lage auf dem Schlachtfeld wird – und allen Berichten aus dem Westen und aus Russland zufolge ist die Situation katastrophal und die Ukrainer werden täglich in den Westen zurückgedrängt –, desto bösartiger und spektakulärer sind die von der Ukraine gesteuerten oder inspirierten Terrorakte gegen die russische Zivilbevölkerung in den “besetzten Gebieten” des Donbass und der Krim und in jüngster Zeit auch im russischen Kernland. Was die Reichweite betrifft, so haben die neuesten ukrainischen Drohnen einen Aktionsradius von 1.000 km und reichen damit weit über Moskau und St. Petersburg hinaus. Wie die Ereignisse der letzten Nacht zeigen, können Abordnungen ukrainischer Henker in unmittelbarer Nähe der russischen Hauptstadt Verwüstungen anrichten.
Die Frage einer Verlagerung von der konventionellen Kriegsführung, bei der die ukrainischen Streitkräfte mit oder ohne westliche militärische und finanzielle Hilfe dezimiert werden, hin zu terroristischen Operationen wurde bereits vor einem Monat in den westlichen wie auch in den russischen Medien diskutiert, als General Zaluzhny als Chef der ukrainischen Streitkräfte abgelöst werden sollte. Es wurde spekuliert, dass sein Nachfolger Kirill Budanow werden könnte, der Chef des ukrainischen militärischen Geheimdienstes und Leiter der Sabotage- und Terrorkampagne gegen Russland, die schon damals sehr beeindruckende Ergebnisse erzielte, während die reguläre Armee auf der Stelle trat. Stattdessen wählte Zelensky General Oleksandr Syrsky als Nachfolger von Zaluzhny aus. Syrsky war bekanntlich der General, der das Leben seiner Soldaten bei dem aussichtslosen Versuch, strategisch unbedeutende Städte zu halten, aufs Spiel gesetzt hat, und er hat diese militärische Torheit bei den jüngsten ukrainischen Gegenangriffen um Awdejewka fortgesetzt. In der Zwischenzeit ist Budanows Stern weiter aufgegangen. Das gestrige Blutbad im Krokus-Rathaus ist nur der jüngste und öffentlichkeitswirksamste Beweis dafür.

Die Putin-Administration scheut sich eindeutig, Kiew für diese Untat verantwortlich zu machen. Aber die russische Öffentlichkeit wird sicherlich enormen Druck auf den Kreml ausüben, sich den Tatsachen zu stellen und mehr zu tun als nur einen weiteren “Racheangriff” auf die ukrainische militärische Infrastruktur, wie er vor einigen Tagen als Reaktion auf die jüngsten ukrainischen Übergriffe und Raketenangriffe in der russischen Grenzprovinz Belgorod in der Nähe der zweitgrößten ukrainischen Stadt Charkow durchgeführt wurde.
Es wird sicherlich einige russische Patrioten geben, die einen Enthauptungsschlag gegen Kiew fordern, um Zelenski und die Neonazis, die de facto seine Regierung kontrollieren, auf einen Schlag loszuwerden. Dies war in den vergangenen zwei Jahren jederzeit möglich, wurde aber vom Kreml aus Gründen, die nichts mit seinen vom christlichen Glauben geleiteten humanitären Werten zu tun haben, nicht durchgeführt.
Nein, der Grund war, zu verhindern, dass ein konventioneller Krieg, der bis vor kurzem innerhalb bestimmter Verhaltensregeln stattfand, in einen regelwidrigen Partisanenkrieg ausartet, wie man ihn üblicherweise in brudermörderischen militärischen Konflikten sieht.
Tatsache ist, dass sich die Ukraine angesichts der Zunahme spektakulärer Terroranschläge auf und in Russland de facto bereits in einem totalen “Partisanenkrieg” befindet. Tatsache ist, dass mit der Drohung in der letzten Woche damit, eine französisch geführten Invasionstruppe in die Ukraine zu schicken, mit der bevorstehenden Lieferung von F-16-Kampfjets an Kiew und mit der immer noch diskutierten Lieferung von nuklearfähigen deutschen Taurus-Marschflugkörpern die Zeit für die Aufteilung dessen, was von der Ukraine übrig ist, unter den interessierten Parteien gekommen ist.
Die Logik der Ermutigung Kiews durch die USA, genau diese Art von Gräueltaten zu begehen, ist für jeden, der Augen hat, offensichtlich. Es waren genau solche Angriffe, wie z.B. während der Tschetschenienkriege und dem Belagerungsmassaker in der Schule von Beslan, die Putin wütend gemacht haben und auf die er mit Gewalt reagiert hat. Die Enthauptung Kiews würde nun auch für Washington sehr gelegen kommen.
