Introducing “Corner Piece,” a new TED podcast that starts small on life’s biggest questions

Par : TED Staff

The biggest questions in life rarely come with simple answers. Corner Piece, a brand-new TED podcast, starts smaller: with the ordinary questions that nag at you on the walk home, in the group chat or while staring at the ceiling at 2am.

What does it mean to be a good friend?

Does unconditional love actually exist?

Why do I feel lonely?

The new show will be hosted by Taha Khan, Melissa Fernandes and Sabrina Cruz, the trio behind Answer in Progress, the award-winning educational YouTube channel with more than a million subscribers. They follow seemingly unassuming questions down unexpected paths — helping their subscribers learn something new about themselves and the world around them. In close collaboration with TED, Taha, Melissa and Sabrina have approached Corner Piece with deep curiosity, truth-seeking humility and a healthy dose of optimism.

This show is made for curious listeners who want to explore real, emotional and thought-provoking questions about life with a little more optimism and a lot more warmth. Season one of Corner Piece features historian Fay Bound Alberti on if there really is a loneliness epidemic; psychologist Marisa G. Franco and journalist Anna Goldfarb on the nuance of friendship; and psychologists Margaret Rutherford and Paul Bloom on whether love can truly be unconditional. Each episode asks the same question: is this modern life, or just part of being human?

This podcast was made possible through the support of Grant 63685 from the John Templeton Foundation.

Corner Piece launches Thursday, September 10, with new episodes every other Thursday. Listen on Apple, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts.

TED podcast “WorkLife” returns with new host, Molly Graham

Par : TED Staff

WorkLife is back — and entering a new chapter. The TED podcast is bringing in a brand-new host — community and company builder Molly Graham — to explore the lessons about work no one teaches you.

Molly Graham has spent nearly two decades inside fast-growing companies, helping them scale through messy, high-stakes moments of change. She led operations at organizations including Facebook, Quip and the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, and she’s known for coining the term “Give Away Your Legos,” which captures the identity shifts leaders face as organizations grow and roles evolve. In her TED Talk, Molly says excellent careers are not built by climbing — they’re built by leaps into the unknown.

We spend so much of our lives at work: doing it, thinking about it, worrying about it. And the full range of human experience shows up there, from ambition and failure to joy, burnout, confidence and self-doubt. Yet these realities often go unnamed, treated as distractions rather than what they truly are: part of the work itself.

On WorkLife, Molly starts from a different premise: that the messy inner life of work can be understood (and even harnessed) to help you build a more meaningful, more sustainable career. That idea echoes the themes of her TED Talk, where she describes how conventional ideas of success can trap people into believing that “self-worth is tied to your title, or your last performance rating, or your next promotion.”

In WorkLife’s new era, Molly will explore how to build a work life that actually fits you, rather than someone else’s definition of success.

Want to start listening? Our trailer is out now, and the first episode featuring a conversation between Molly and our past host, Adam Grant, will drop on Tuesday, April 28. Listen to WorkLife wherever you get your podcasts.

TED debuts “Fixable,” a new career advice podcast with leadership experts Frances Frei and Anne Morriss

Par : TED Staff

There’s a path forward from every problem at work — sometimes we just need some help finding the best direction to take. That’s where the TED Audio Collective’s newest podcast, Fixable, comes in — to guide career advice seekers towards getting unstuck.

Leading the way are hosts Frances Frei, a Harvard Business School professor, and Anne Morriss, CEO and best-selling author. This dynamic leadership power couple (yes, they happen to be married to each other) are taking real people’s career complications — no matter their industry or position — and setting them up for success. From addressing communication roadblocks to unproductive company cultures to uncertainty in how to scale up a business and more, Frei and Morriss share fast, actionable solutions to relatable issues in 30 minutes or less each week.

This isn’t your average “listen and learn” podcast experience. This show is built around participation.

True to its title, Fixable actively connects listeners with expert problem-solvers to steer them towards a thriving professional future. Do you have a work problem you’d like to solve? Call our hotline at 234-Fixable (that’s 234-349-2253) and leave a voicemail explaining your work woes for a chance to be featured on a future episode.

New “TED Radio Hour” three-part series explores “Mind, Body, Spirit”

Par : TED Staff

For millennia, humans have debated the connection between the mind, body and spirit. But today, the phrase sounds trite — a hallmark of the #selfcare industry. Over three episodes of this special series on TED Radio Hour, TED speakers will investigate fresh perspectives on how we think, move and feel.

In the first hour: the mind. The brain is the most complex organ in the human body. It gives us control over our bodies and shapes our thoughts, memories and emotions. But how? And can we coach ourselves to think better? The series kicks off with an investigation into the different ways we think and understand the world, what new brain-computer interfaces could do for sharing our thoughts and a story about taming that voice in our head that makes us miserable. Plus, a poem about preparing your mind to be more open to creative ideas. Mind-blowing stuff? Hell yes. Guests explore the internal and external influences on our minds, including animal behaviorist and autism activist Temple Grandin, podcast host and meditation advocate Dan Harris, neurointerventionist Tom Oxley and poet Sarah Kay.

The second hour focuses on the body. We know it’s important to listen to our bodies and trust how we feel, but it’s not always easy. In part 2 of our series, TED speakers explore ideas about movement, pleasure and rest. Guests include choreographer Ryan Heffington, news anchor Lee Thomas, aerialist Adie Delaney and therapist KC Davis.

In the third and final episode we hear from speakers who’ve found unique ways to rekindle the human spirit and, as the saying goes, stay “true” to themselves. Guests include author, researcher and podcaster Tania Lunar, renowned artist JR and serial entrepreneur Artur Sychov. Their challenges include invasions of privacy, incarceration, exile and simply facing human mortality. Their tactics? Sidestepping linear time with innovation, embracing uncertainty by incorporating surprise into our daily lives and using beauty to overwhelm the ugly side of humanity. Their stories will spark your zest for life, too.

You can get all three episodes of our “Mind, Body, Spirit” series, as well as more episodes of TED Radio Hour, on Apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.

TED launches “Good Sport,” new sports podcast with Jody Avirgan

Par : TED Staff

TED and sports. It may not seem like the most obvious combination, but here at TED we’ve long understood that the world of sports has crucial ideas worth spreading. We’ve had Serena Williams on the TED stage talking about competitive edge, heard from Billie Jean King on perseverance and saw Alex Honnold teach us to conquer our fears. We’ve had talks from David Epstein on why athletes are getting stronger and faster and Chris Kluwe on how augmented reality can help both players and fans.

Our new podcast, Good Sport, follows our curiosity deeper into the wide world of sports, finding surprising insights and telling great stories along the way.

Hosted by veteran sports producer Jody Avirgan in conversation with superstar athletes, journalists, sports psychologists and more, Good Sport is a show that uses sports as a lens to explore big ideas around work, leadership, psychology and science. Avirgan will explore fun and puzzling questions such as: Is “the zone” a real place, and can brain stimulation enhance performance? How do stadiums influence local politics? Is it still baseball if you’re wearing a giant banana suit? How do great coaches create talent hotbeds? And is the future of sports gender-blind?

This is definitely a show for sports fans, but it’s truly for anyone who wants to understand what sports can teach us about ourselves. The first episode drops January 30 on Apple Podcasts and February 8 everywhere else.

“ReThinking with Adam Grant”: New podcast challenges listeners to let go of old ideas and gain new perspective

Par : TED Staff

ReThinking with Adam Grant: New Podcast from the TED Audio Collective

In response to the overwhelming popularity of Adam Grant’s interviews on the WorkLife podcast, TED Audio Collective has launched a new podcast, ReThinking with Adam Grant, to explore the science of what makes us tick. TED speaker and organizational psychologist Adam Grant will interview today’s most fascinating creators, achievers and leaders to figure out how they think and what they want us to rethink.

“My favorite part of being a psychologist is discovering something new about how we think — especially when I find out that something I thought I knew wasn’t true,” said host Adam Grant. “Having a weekly show is the perfect excuse to have more surprising, more eye-opening conversations. I can’t believe I get to talk with the most interesting minds on earth and call it part of my job.”

Adam will bring curiosity and science to conversations and debates with people like entrepreneur and investor Mark Cuban, death-defying rock climber Alex Honnold, novelist Celeste Ng, Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon, Saul Perlmutter, the Nobel Prize-winning physicist who discovered the expansion of the universe, and many more.

“ReThinking feels like such a natural extension of the amazing work Adam’s already doing, and we’re thrilled to be expanding the universe of shows that feature his uniquely curious mind — not to mention the most fascinating thinkers around,” said Michelle Quint, TED’s Director of Audio. “We think it’ll be a real gift to listeners.”

ReThinking with Adam Grant is produced in collaboration with Cosmic Standard. New episodes will be released every Tuesday on Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Subscribers to TED Audio Collective+ on Apple Podcasts will also be able to listen ad-free to ReThinking, as well as getting uninterrupted or early access to select other shows in the collective such as TED Talks Daily, Body Stuff with Dr. Jen Gunter, The TED Interview and How to Be a Better Human.

ReThinking with Adam Grant: New Podcast from the TED Audio Collective

“Conversations with People Who Hate Me” joins the TED Audio Collective

Par : TED Staff

The podcast Conversations with People Who Hate Me has joined the TED Audio Collective ahead of its new season, which launches on February 16. Listen to new episodes on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts.

Hosted by writer and performer Dylan Marron, the podcast invites people who have clashed online — from strangers to coworkers to friends — to step away from the keyboard and get to know one another as human beings. Conversations with People Who Hate Me fosters meaningful connections, often with surprising and heartwarming results, in a time of increasing isolation.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to have Conversations with People Who Hate Me join the TED Audio Collective,” Marron says. “Not only will the podcast be able to reach an entirely new crop of listeners filled with TED’s curious and brilliant audience members, but I’m honored to be part of a cohort that includes other daring creators who regularly make work that feeds both my brain and my soul.”

As a digital creator, Dylan has witnessed firsthand that with online success often comes online hate. However, he’s found that the best and most subversive way to handle the vitriol is to foster conversation. These conversations on the podcast have also inspired Dylan’s new book by the same title.

On the show’s addition, TED’s director of audio Michelle Quint says, “We’re Dylan’s biggest fans and massively excited that he’s chosen the TED Audio Collective as the new home for Conversations with People Who Hate Me. We absolutely can’t wait to see where he takes the show from here.”

Conversations with People Who Hate Me’s new season launches February 16 and explores issues and conflicts like conversion therapy, the January 6 insurrection, a mother who disavowed her transgender son and a woman who was subjected to viral sexist memes. The surprising thing to everyone who listens to the show is that Dylan takes what could be hate-filled conversations and makes them about human connections and all the ways we can understand each other. Listen to new episodes on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts.

That’s why we’re thrilled that Your Undivided Attention is joining the TED Audio Collective so we can share our learnings from inspiring leaders across sectors on what we can do together to catalyze a more humane future.”

Harris and Raskin were featured in the 2020 Netflix documentary The Social Dilemma, which explored the machinations of social media and its grip on civilization.

TED’s director of audio Michelle Quint shares, “We’re excited to support the urgent and essential mission of Your Undivided Attention and proud the show has chosen the TED Audio Collective as its new home.”

Your Undivided Attention will remain ad-free as a part of the TED Audio Collective.

Am I Normal? with Mona Chalabi, a new podcast from the TED Audio Collective, premieres October 18

Par : TED Staff

Am I Normal? with Mona Chalabi, the newest podcast from the TED Audio Collective, launches on October 18.

We all want to know if we’re normal: Do I have enough friends? Should it take me this long to get over my ex? Should I move or stay where I am? Endlessly curious data journalist Mona Chalabi needs to know, and she’s ready to dive into the numbers to get some answers. But studies and spreadsheets don’t tell the whole story, so she’s consulting experts, strangers and even her mum to fill in the gaps. The answers might surprise you, and make you ask: Does normal even exist?

Mona is a data journalist who uses illustrations to make huge sets of statistics understandable. She’s written for The New Yorker, the New York Times, The Guardian and many more. “If you hate math because you think it’s way too abstract, I get it,” she says. “My job is to convince you that data is deeply personal and that it’s not so hard to understand once you’re given the right tools. I think TED does a similar thing: they make research accessible to everyone, and really value the power of following your curiosity. So partnering together seemed like a really good fit. And it was a good fit!”

Season one will consist of eight episodes, each accompanied by a short video released on TED.com, YouTube and TED’s social channels. The videos will feature Mona’s own hand-drawn illustrations, as seen on her popular Instagram account, as well as other methods of data visualization, including props, animation and puppetry. These playful yet insightful videos get us one step closer to answering Mona’s questions in a fun and accessible way.

Produced by TED and Transmitter Media, Am I Normal? is part of the TED Audio Collective. TED’s collection of podcasts includes shows co-developed by TED and its speakers as well as shows developed and produced independently by inspiring thinkers and creators. The growing list of podcasts ranges from TED originals like TED Talks Daily and Far Flung with Saleem Reshamwala to independent series like Design Matters with Debbie Millman and ZigZag with Manoush Zomorodi.

“Body Stuff with Dr. Jen Gunter,” a new podcast from the TED Audio Collective, premieres May 19

Par : TED Staff

Body Stuff with Dr. Jen Gunter, the newest podcast from the TED Audio Collective, launches on May 19. Body Stuff will bust the lies you’re told — and sold — about your personal health. Body Stuff is hosted by celebrated OB/GYN, pain medicine physician and TED speaker Dr. Jen Gunter, who has made it her mission to combat health misinformation online and isn’t afraid to take on the world’s biggest peddlers of it — from lotions and potions to diets and detoxes.

Each week’s episode debunks a medical myth and turns us into experts by demystifying how our bodies work. For example, did you know that you don’t actually need eight glasses of water a day? Or that you can’t “boost” your immune system? With humor and wit, Dr. Jen Gunter is here to educate you, while also disproving myths that have been around for centuries.

“Here’s a secret: most of medicine isn’t that hard,” says Dr. Jen Gunter. “To be sure, there’s a lot of it to learn, but the basics of what people need to know can and should be accessible. That is what we are aiming to do with Body Stuff: explain the elegant and cool biology behind different body systems, but also explore cultural forces that impact what we believe about our bodies and health — and make it fun. I want our listeners to marvel at their own machinery, understand some of the forces that may have shaped their medical beliefs and provide them with information that can help them on their journey to being empowered about their own health.”

Season one will have eight episodes. Each episode of the podcast will be accompanied by a short video released on TED.com, YouTube and TED’s social channels that further helps us understand the systems of the body in a fun and accessible way.

Produced by TED and Transmitter Media, Body Stuff is part of the TED Audio Collective. TED’s collection of podcasts includes shows co-developed by TED and its speakers as well as shows developed and produced independently by inspiring thinkers and creators. The growing list of podcasts ranges from TED originals like TED Talks Daily and Far Flung with Saleem Reshamwala to independent series like Design Matters with Debbie Millman and Conversations with People Who Hate M‪e from Dylan Marron.

The interactive experience combines audio storytelling with written exercises and a companion newsletter to align listeners’ personal values with their professional ambitions.

With six new episodes, this season will help listeners better understand their personal and professional purpose and the tools needed to translate them into their next zig or zag. The season culminates in a commencement episode that includes excerpts from Manoush’s conversation with Stacey Abrams on TED Radio Hour. Additional guests this season include MIT humanist chaplain Greg Epstein, conflict resolution specialist Priya Parker and former Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett, among others.

“The world is changing, and many of my listeners say they’re at a crossroads, too,” said host Manoush Zomorodi. “I’m so thrilled to offer this fun, interactive process to help folks figure out how they can move forward in their career while also sticking to their values.”

New episodes of The ZigZag Project will air every other week on Thursdays, starting March 25.

The ZigZag Project comes from Stable Genius Productions in collaboration with the TED Audio Collective. TED’s collection of podcasts includes shows co-developed by TED and its speakers as well as shows developed and produced independently by inspiring thinkers and creators. TED launches TED Audio Collective for podcasts

Par : TED Staff

On February 22, 2021, TED launches the TED Audio Collective to house its growing collection of podcasts.

While broadly known for its global conferences and signature TED Talk videos, TED is also one of the top podcast publishers in the world. TED podcasts are downloaded 1.65 million times per day in virtually every country on earth. Our shows have been consistently ranked by Apple Podcasts as “most downloaded” of the year, and TED Talks Daily was the second most popular show globally on Spotify in 2020. Now the TED Audio Collective expands upon that foundation, creating a home for shows co-developed by TED and our speakers as well as shows developed and produced independently by inspiring thinkers and creators.

The podcasts in the TED Audio Collective are for listeners curious about everything from philosophy and psychology to science, technology, business and unexpected pathways in between — all curated through TED’s lens of “ideas worth spreading.” Here’s a sneak peek of exciting new content to expect over the coming months.

New in the TED Audio Collective:

Body Stuff with Dr. Jen Gunter

Dr. Jen Gunter is on a mission to make us experts on the way our bodies work. Body Stuff is an original show developed by TED that aims to demystify the systems of the body while debunking medical myths along the way. Did you know that you don’t actually need eight glasses of water a day? That you can’t “boost” your immune system?

With humor and wit, Dr. Jen Gunter, a celebrated OB/GYN, pain medicine physician and TED speaker, aims to share accurate, evidence-based medical information in a fun and accessible way.

(Season 1 launches May 2021)

Lost Birds with Mona Chalabi

From COVID to electoral politics, people are turning to data to make sense of the world as never before. But how well do we understand what those numbers actually mean? Interpreting data has never been more timely or relevant to fight misinformation and understand the world around us.

In this original, sound-rich series, data scientist Mona Chalabi will take listeners on an inquiry into the central question: How can we use data to make sense of our lived experiences, and what are the limits of that data? Along the way, she will tackle urgent, random and sometimes deeply personal questions: How does Google calculate walking speeds? What happens when cities get louder? When will my heartache end?

(Season 1 launches June 2021)

Conversations with People Who Hate Me

TED alum Dylan Marron is joining the TED Audio Collective to continue exploring what happens when online feuders step out from behind the keyboard and get to know the human on the other side of the screen.

In an internet era characterized by comment section wars, devastating clapbacks and anonymous vitriol, Dylan Marron connects people who have clashed online — from old friends to complete strangers — to explore why we believe what we believe, how we relate to each other on the internet and just what a phone call can accomplish. Don’t be fooled by the title! It’s actually a loving show that fosters unlikely connections in an age of increasing digital isolation.

(New episodes launching Fall 2021)

Design Matters

The iconic Design Matters with Debbie Millman pulls back the curtain on how incredibly creative people design the arc of their lives. It’s the world’s first podcast about design — an inquiry into the broader world of creative culture through wide-ranging conversations with designers, writers, artists, curators, musicians and other luminaries of contemporary thought. Design Matters joined the TED Audio Collective in October 2020 and is produced independently, with TED amplifying the podcast to its global audience.

(New episodes every Monday. Watch out for upcoming conversations with Adam Grant, Jacqueline Woodson, Nick Cave and many more.)

Plus, new episodes from:

ZigZag

Hosted by Manoush Zomorodi, ZigZag is a business show about being human. Manoush takes listeners on a journey to discover new ways we can align our business ambitions with systemic change that’s good for our fellow human beings and the world. In March 2021, Manoush will release season six: “The Zig Zag Project.” Over six weeks, she’ll lead a boot camp for listeners who want to make big changes in their work life by finding ways to align their personal values with their professional ambitions.

(Season 6 launches March 2021)

TED Business

Columbia Business School professor Modupe Akinola hosts TED Business, a show that explores the most powerful and surprising ideas that illuminate the business world. After hearing a TED Talk, listeners get a mini-lesson from Modupe on how to apply the ideas from the talk to their own lives. Because whatever your business conundrum — how to land that new promotion, set smarter goals, undo injustice at work or unlock the next big thing — there’s a TED Talk for that.

(New episodes every Monday)

WorkLife with Adam Grant

WorkLife with Adam Grant is back with its fourth season! Organizational psychologist Adam Grant takes listeners inside the minds of some of the world’s most unusual professionals to explore the science of making work not suck. Season four kicks off with a bonus episode where JJ Abrams interviews Adam Grant about his new book, Think Again.

  • Taken for Granted: TED is also launching a companion series inspired by Adam’s popular long-form interviews with luminaries like Esther Perel. Starting with Brené Brown, Malcolm Gladwell, Jane Goodall and Glennon Doyle, he’ll sit down with his favorite thinkers about the opinions and assumptions we should all be revisiting.

(Season 4 launches March 2021, and Taken for Granted launches February 2021)

The TED Interview

In The TED Interview, Head of TED Chris Anderson speaks with some of the world’s most interesting people to dig into the most provocative and powerful ideas of our time. From Bill Gates to Monica Lewinsky, Chris follows his curiosity across myriad topics and disciplines, diving deep with the most compelling thinkers from the TED stage and beyond. Entering the sixth season of the show this year, Chris investigates “The Case for Optimism” and why there’s still reason for tremendous hope in these trying times.

(Season 6 launches April 2021, featuring interviews with climate activist Xiye Bastida, inventor of CRISPR Jennifer Doudna and many more.)

TED Radio Hour

In each episode of TED Radio Hour, host Manoush Zomorodi explores a big idea through a series of TED Talks and original interviews, inspiring us to learn more about the world, our communities and, most importantly, ourselves. TED Radio Hour is a co-production of NPR and TED.

(New episodes every Friday. Watch out for an exciting episode in March called “Through The Looking Glass” about the tools that scientists, physicians and artists use to extend our perception of what we can see and our boundaries of consciousness — featuring TED speakers Emily Levesque, Ariel Waldman, Rick Doblin and more.)
