'Self-Coup': Wikipedia Owner Proposes Tightening Board Candidate Eligibility Limiting Community Power

Par : T.D. Adler

The Wikimedia Foundation, which owns Wikipedia, has proposed revisions to its eligibility criteria for community-elected Board of Trustees members after a community revolt last year over the disqualification of candidates. Community members noted this would automatically render ineligible one candidate disqualified in last year’s election.

In an unprecedented development, Cvjetković’s ban was lifted on Wednesday along with another banned user, allowing them to resume editing.

Some editors argued Sanger’s proposed reforms should be discarded with his ban. Other editors expressing support for Sanger received mocking responses, including comments related to Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk’s assassination last year.
